Lotuz I was checking out some of your stuff last night...that Beatnuts remix is UNREAL! Sooo good man.

I've only really sat down and used FL in the past. I've been pretty happy with some of my end results, but I think the first thing I'm gonna do with Maschine is take all my old samples and re-do all my old beats the right way. I used to record samples to my pc then chop them in goldwave or something similar and THEN get them lined up in FL. What a pain compared to what I've seen done with Maschine!

Reading all these posts is making the wait even harder, but giving me some good ideas. I'm getting a new Macbook this week to go along with Maschine (next week) so this is all a huge step up for me :)

time for my two cents, yo
I actually like it alot I've now listened to it a couple of times now in a row
I'm a big trip hop fan and this actually isnt that bad that boosted piano line though has to be switched up it fits but I wouldn't say its the best fitting piano line
    and the drums rock, yo

Welcome. Knock was also a big selling factor for me.

Yes Lotus is pretty much the man.

I too am going to be retooling a bunch of my old beats. My samples were dope, but the skill level was much lower than it is now. Time for some revamps. :D

Damn! my ankle is broken :(
The good news since i'm blocked at home I have time to make beats
After reading the thread about comparing our workflows I realized that I haven't paid attention enough to the drag'n drop export audio feature with a DAW. I've just tested and I have to say it rocks !

Usually when I choose a track to chop and play with, it often remind me something so it is possible (if not sure) that it may have been used before.

I don't remember what was the original song, I've extracted the samples in wav files at my cousin one day and just found it on a usb key yesterday lol i'll ask him and i'll tell you the name of the song and the artist ;)

I know for sure I've heard the first two bars (pitched down a bit) before, but I can't remember which track. It sounds like something Cormega or another Queensbridge artist could have used. It's driving me nuts.

Yeah, we really need time stretch! I've got a sick sample, but damn it if it's not shy of perfectly on beat. Time stretched it in Logic, and now it sounds great....but it would be really nice if I could do it in MASCHINE!

couldnt agree more ....lets see what the grain stretch effect will improve on that topic , though what thomas @ni said about it recently is not very encouraging :(

Well, here are a couple of tracks I've been working on.

This one I've been working on pretty much all week, trying to get it to sound right. Let me know what you think.
    Don't Think

And this one I made today. Was listening to records, and BAM! This one just hit me. Has that old 36 Chambers feel.
    More Than You'll Ever

Lotuz, you're gonna love this. After I got done arranging all this, I decided to see if it has been used by anyone...and dammit if Screwball didn't use this one too! I really don't know how to feel about that. It is pretty coincidental though that I used to of the same samples that Screwball used. Though, I don't know if it was the same producer...but still. Oh well. Just don't be trying to call me a biter! :p

more than u'll ever is really nice, smooth but heavy , is that really 90 bpm .....

the intro gave me a flashback on a track i sampled from u-tube(in the beginning i could swear u sampled from this one:lol: ) but never finished...

@pawcut, that record is so sick! Very similar to what I sampled, which is actually this.

And yes, it is actually 90 bpm. The thing with the drums is, I played them slow, to match the feel of the sample. I tried doubling up on the snares, but it just felt muddy.

Your sample rocks and I also love the intro of your song ;)

    @pawcut

It sounds a bit empty. Here I go again, I need to hear that bass. ;)

This one is so ill. Great sample! You know I love those organ and guitar sounds.

And if you use a sample different and create a dope beat like this, than you're definitely not a biter.

But of course it isn't 90 4/4 BPM. It is a slow 6/8 beat.

I like it. I'd add a bit more swing to the drums. I don't like the change at 0:30 though.

    Hey guys,

I've seen "swing" mentioned here a few times with reference to drums it seems. I'm not familiar with that term. Does it have anything to do with the quantize function? If someone could briefly explain that, I'd appreciate it!

    Thanks

    Here you go:

No swing can make your beat sound stiff. Too much swing can make your beat sound bouncy.
