    No offense taken at all, I think I do better with the gutter-level grime touch on my beats than trying to nail that 50 Cent Flavor the Week style, too. But I'm all about pushing my creative boundaries so I don't end up making the same track over and over again.

    glad you took it properly KennyM I look forward to hearing more!

    Architect I like the chops on that one. Think the drums should smack a lil thicker.
    but other than that I could hear like a sean p track on there.

    I purchased Maschine about 3 weeks ago. I love it so far. I use it for hip-hop production. You can listen to 4 of the 20 or so beats I've started on Maschine here (the top 4 beats are from Maschine, I was using Ableton 8 with MPD before) ~ http://soundcloud.com/z1beats

    They are all sampled off vinyl into Maschine. Drums are taken from a combo of maschine drums and my own sampled drums.

    That piano in Your Life sure is nice. :cool:

    What's the reason there are no basslines in your beats?

    I am home at my parents house for winter break. I've been using a combo of headphones and $10 computer speakers back and forth since I bought Maschine and it's hard to add to the low end with those. Moving back to my apartment with my Maschine tomorrow afternoon where my real speakers are. Just some Logitech's though (Z2300) ...I am saving up for monitors and an audio interface. Only started making beats last January 2010, self taught.

    P.S. for basslines do you just use LPF's over samples? It's my main route of adding bass, not sure if there were any better methods besides adding the LPF? Appreciate it.

    i think for your style lpf is the way to go ....
    for me (and my musical skills) theres nothing better then the low end theory, if i try to create a bass from the library i never feel it...

    i too filter my basslines but I've been trying different settings for last few ones and I think i finally have it down (i was getting into lpf'ing my basslines into sub bass territory therefore taking away from a lot of the thump) but the folder where I keep my projects got erased somehow so I can't really edit them and put them in but for the last one I did I've redid the settings for the lo pass and added some swing to a few parts so it'll sound much better and much more professional

    i always set the cut off and the resonance to bout 50 and adjust it from that point ....
    also some metaverb , some swing ,( if u wanna have gaps , some slicing and adsr-modulation) do a good job
    if its to silent give it sm drive or compression, take the maximizer instead of increasing the volume ..
    maybe cut off the low end with an eq if comes over to buzzy in the end
    nothing official , jus what works for me

    When a sample doesn't contain bass (that piano sample in Your Life for example), then a low pass filter is useless. Search for a nice bass sound (it doesn't have to be from the Maschine library) and play your own bassline. If you like those early Nineties filtered basslines (Beatminerz :cool:), then put a low pass filter on your bass sound.
    ---
    Here's a quick example of an added bassline. The Scarbee Pre-Bass from the Maschine library sounds like this when you put a low pass filter on it (cutoff 102,4 Hz, resonance 12%):

    Let me know if you want me to delete it, okay?

    like that dillaesk loose vibe on this one , but i guess i like scrambles crates (except the outro i guess) from your soundcloud even more :)

    ......
    so im trying to get something off that bar kays thing , making it kinda luchini style.... but the drums are much more outta grid than i ever had it on a 4/4 i didnt gave up on.......
    kinda weird , anybody a clue whats going on here , i still dig it wthout any drums mixed to it like it is (jus some filtering ).....

    http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10099529

    i mean could anybody seriously headnod or rap on that 1 ?

    @Lotuz, that bass sounds pretty nice over it. Did you just find the key of the sample and play along? And that was a Maschine bass patch with an LPF on it?

    @Paw:

    This sounds like an intro to me, because of the low tempo and the strange mix.

    @Ghost:

    Yes, I did search for the right keys, then adjusted the Tune, and played along the piano melody.

    Instead of playing along you can also go against the melody (ie the bass plays its own melody). Or you can play some single tones at the same time as the drums to emphasize (listen to my 2011 beat) or in between (syncopated).
