Fascinating thread. Surprised and pleased to see how wide the Maschine community casts its net--quite a number of different styles and sounds between the users. That's always nice to see.

I've posted a link at the bottom of something I threw together pretty quickly a few months back. It's heavily sample based--so much so that it's almost not really "hip-hop" anymore, but I'm happy with it.

To be honest, I'm not normally keen on sharing rough projects like this, but seeing as it's the first and only thing I've routed through Logic for mastering--and thus the most "sonically complete", I figure there's not much else I can improve on without some outside and hopefully sincere criticism. So, here I am.

Like I said, I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds, but, as you'll hear, the sequencing is very rough--it doesn't remotely resemble a full or traditional song structure. All I wanted was to get most of the scenes in there and give it that fully produced sound.

    How'd I do?

http://soundcloud.com/ghoulardi/the-happiness-1 (It gets going about halfway through.)

I'd be happy to upload some more if anyone's interested.

agree to what u said that this a lil different than a standard hip-hop beat
i really like the way u chopped and flipped that thing and i really dig the whole vibe (i love curtiy may , btw ).......
    2 things in my ears....
1rst ....from 0:53 on im out , i dont feel all that increasing drum action....
overall theres a lil bit too much happening there in my ears (like i could live without the saxophone part) ,even if its not made for a rapper i guess the track had more potential if u strip some elements down and give the beat more air to breathe
happy with the way it sounds and its mixed , too

Thanks for the comment. That album's been chopped and screwed by just about every producer I can think of, and yet it's managed to somehow never lose its magic. There's always some beautiful little slice someone hasn't exploited. Quite an achievement on Mayfield's part.

I kind of go ape on the drums sometimes, so I'm not surprised to read someone say there's "too much going on." It's a crutch. I realize. But when you don't have someone spitting over your tracks, it's hard to define a clear rhythm and "vibe", I think… A barrage of kick drums can often give it that necessary flow. But, you're right, and I'm surprised it took someone saying that the beat needs a little air for me to realize that the best part of that track is really the end, where everything slows down and the chops are given a little bit more room. I'll work on it.

This track was made using only Maschine 1.6 Beta. I think the song is dynamite, but I need a set of trained ears to tell me if anything can be worked on? Thanks. Long live .... Maschine.
