I am trying to figure out the best way to use maschine and want to hear suggestions on full track building from those that know this equipment. I run Cubase Studio 5 and was curious as to the approach some of you take in developing your tracks. I have Komplete6 as well. I add them all, the programs im using whether it be Kontakt or FM8, as their own instrument track in session. The issue I am having is adding Maschine as an instrument track in cubase. First nothing will record. I can navigate through all the sound banks easily enough but when I try to lay drums down it doesnt pick anything up and then deletes the track as soon as I hit stop. Also, I get clicks and pops when using maschine in cubase. I believe these are a result in spikes in CPU usage. This bothers me...I dont know the exact specs on my CPU but its more than adequate at multitasking with major usage. I usually have no other programs active when this happens, within or outside of cubase.

Im just curious on how I get seemless work flow in my DAW? At the present I either have to lay a beat down outside of my production session, inside of maschine the software and then dump it into a DAW or lay down instruments only to a metronome. Is there any other ways to improve the going back and forth of a process like this?

    Thanks
    D. Lee

Homie I wish I could help I have the same issues with Cubase 5 and a reasonable workflow for Maschine and too have posted a topic on this before and didn't get much feedback. That's what really bothers me about Maschine and Native Instruments if your going say a product works well with DAWs atleast give us some help with tutorials showing Maschine with popular DAWs like cubase or logic. There isn't much help and were left to trial and error. At this point cubase is my major DAW and since I can't get Maschine to function properly it's just sitting. What a waist! If you figure something out please post your ideas.

Thanks for replying my man because as I see there have been quite a few views of this thread but no responses. At least I know that Im not the only one with an issue here. It is unusual, the issue I am having. I did figure out that you have to use the maschine interface to record it within the instrument track in Cubase. My guess is that you have to the export it and just create it as an audio file once you are happy with it. I deal with the pops and clicks as annoyances but am worried this will result in crashing the DAW. Once the loop/loops are recorded there is no issue with it continuing to spike CPU usage and no pops. That is unless you go to layer drums then all hell breaks loose and it gets 10 times worse. Its sh!tty though because I got maschine specifically for the capacity of a smooth work flow.

    Hi,
I'm using Cubase as my main DAW & Maschine for my beats.
I find the best method for me is to insert maschine FX on it's own GROUP channel. Then create an AUDIO channel to sample from records etc, and route this channel to the maschine GROUP channel. Maschine will now record.
You have 3 choices on how to integrate Maschine directly into Cubase.

    1. Instrument Channel. (only benefit is scene changes can be recorded on the same channel, = neater, no other benefits)
    2. VST rack. This method allows the multi out from maschine & assign midi channels. But you will lose record in functionality.
    3. Maschine FX on a Group. You can record into maschine & assign midi channels. but lose multi track out.

No option will let you use the Maschine transport controls, (unless you are in midi controler mode).

Please correct me if I'm wrong. But these are the methods I have tried out.

So you want Cubase to trigger the scenes? Or do you want Cubase to trigger the sounds (create patterns in Maschine, then drag and drop the MIDI to MIDI tracks)?

what you think is the best solution ?
i would like to drag midi patterns i cubase so i can manipulate with them when i put vocal.
will the sound still be that good if cubase triggers same patterns

If you don't mind using the mouse a lot, then use the Cubase sequencer instead of the Maschine sequencer to trigger the sounds, because the Cubase sequencer is more powerful (more/better features) and flexible. You won't hear the difference. Use Part to Groove (Advanced Quantize) to recreate your favorite Maschine swing settings in Cubase.

If you want to use the swing of the MPC, SP or Maschine in Cubase, then you need their grooves to quantize your MIDI events. One way to get those grooves is Part to Groove. This analyzes the timing of MIDI events and creates a quantize template. I'm sure you can find MPC and SP groove templates for Cubase somewhere on the Internet.

The Gold Baby website has free groove templates for SP1200 & MPC60

I had major problems running maschine as a vst on my last PC. It was fine when triggered via midi from the sequencer or from my midi keyboard, but if you hit a pad it would max out the CPU, momentarily glitching and stalling the sequencer. Weirdly if you hit the same pad again it wouldnt glitch until you hit a new pad. It made Maschine pretty much unuseable as a VST.

Ive upgraded my PC from a Pentium D to an Phenom x6 since and Maschine is running sweet as a nut in VST now.

Did you use Cubase as your DAW? And if so, how did you get Maschine running as a VSTi?

    Cheers

About the glitching in Cubase 5. That also happens here sometimes when I have Multi Processing checked in the Device Setup.

Yeah im still using Cubase studio 5. Like I say Maschine was pretty much unuseable as a VST in Cubase on my last PC. Id say if your having this problem use Maschine in standalone and make lots of patterns and fills and stuff and only load maschine as a vst when your ready to arrange. That way you can map, drag and drop the midi into cubase and trigger maschine from your DAW or midi controller. Its not the greatest but thats the only way I got anything done.

What i dont understand is how everyone can say "im just glad theyre making it more standalone with VST support" --- without TS how good is it good as a standalone? From the get they targeted the hip hop market and SPECIFICALLY samplers, but figure this is a feature better done by another program? I dont use it as standalone so yea the VST thing isnt a big deal but i understand how it will help standalone users out - but those same users are STILL gonna have to open another program to resample or timestretch
i cant believe it doesnt have it yet and that updates are so few and far between - i know bitching wont help but this is rediculous
