I'm happy to hear you're happy with JAM. However, the fact that you can alter the grid resolution from it was never disputed and is not the issue of this thread e.g., altering step resolution still wouldn't allow a 3/16 length note. Also, MASCHINE's step sequencer has always allowed those resolutions, hasn't it?

Again, though, glad you're getting on so far with it and long may it continue!

I understand the issue. This was off topic and something that I couldn't find info on before I purchased. Yes you could do it with the normal macshine but I never would, bit of a nightmare knowing where you are with 64ths on 16 pads.

Still room for development indeed. Cheers

Additionally, the grid button does not modify the grid size of Maschine when Maschine is operating as a plug in Ableton Live. It works fine in standalone mode, but the grid button will just trigger the tap tempo button of Live when Maschine is a plugin.

This is only if you have host transport control enabled though.

    Bump!
Just got my Jam delivered today and it did not took me long until I found myself stressing google on how that note length is changed or notes could be tied. My immediate trial was to hold the beginning of the note and then press the pad where it should end. Same as stated here before it works for scenes. I am so happy with Jam overall but this needs really to be changed quick. The grid is an anlternative workaround, but not a good one IMO. I'll have to try how cumbersome it is to change the note length from the studio controller. I'd rather do it on the same controller however.
Anyhow, the ableton template allows you to change the note length with the dial knob. It stopped for me at a max length of a 1/4 note though. I assume that might be my grid setting in ableton. I'll try messing with that and report unless someone else is faster.
    Cheers

Couldn't go to bed without trying that. In Maschine as Plugin the knob does not affect the note length. In ableton using the template, you can change the note length using the knob. Max note length is still very short with a quarter note, but better than nothing. Grid settings in ableton do not affect this unless I am stupid. Please someone else try this. I rather have this working in ableton then not at all.

    PS
I bought Jam specifically because of the step sequencer so I can program my external gear.

    44Forge,

Make sure you are using Maschine 2.6 which just arrived this week. It allows changing note length, velocity, etc. A great and needed update! There are a bunch of videos on Youtube on the updates but ADSR has one specifically about note editing. Search Youtube for Maschine 2.6 and you will find it. Congrats on your Jam purchase. You will love it!

    Fantastic!! Thanks Trevorhor!
I thought I had it all updated yesterday because I remember seeing a Maschine update installing but apparently missed this feature.
Does this carry over into the ableton template? If no, maybe that's why I couldn't get it to work. Or I might have updated after I copied the template over to ableton and may have to redo that step.

Works great in Maschine! Just could need some help accomplishing the same in ableton via template. I replaced the midi remote template once more just to be on the safe side but I still can't figure the note length out. I am hoping that I am doing something wrong.
Oh also, anyone can tell me how I switch between midi templates using the Jam? It seems to hide from me in the template manual. TIA

You can switch within Ableton to Maschine running as a VST and back to the Ableton template using Shift + the "Monitor" button (the one with a pic of headphones) but I think you have to switch templates themselves from inside the Controller Editor software, if I recall correctly.

That would be odd. I got three templates active within the controller editor. There got to be something we are missing. Maschine studio lets you switch templates via display. I am sure there is a way with Jam

I don't think Jam can switch templates from the hardware but not 100 on that.

If there is, I do hope you will post how you did it!

BTW - you do not need to close Maschine (nor Komplete Kontrol for S-series keyboards) to open the Controller Editor and switch templates (and even create them on-the-fly, apparently) - it switches three seconds after clicking the template choice for me for the S-Series keyboard and switches instantly in Maschine Jam. Shift-Monitor switches off the MIDI template and back to normal use on the Jam. Shift-Instance switches back to normal on the S-series keyboards.

Also, I just remembered that on the S-Series keyboards, once in MIDI mode via the Instance button, you can press the up and down arrows at the far right to switch between templates.

Unfortunately, trying the buttons on the D-Pad of Maschine Jam does not do the same thing, but there MIGHT be a way I haven't discovered yet.

This is also being discussed over here in this thread:
Changing Miditemplate on Maschine Jam directly

    Thanks guys! Much appreciated!
D pad was my first try but didn't worked. Maybe it will be implemented later...
Thanks for explaining how to switch via controller editor.
Does anyone has input on my previous question regarding note length via step sequencer thru ableton template? I seem to only get quarter notes maximum length.
My quantization settings are set to 1 bar but I thought to remember that clips also can have quantization. That might be my problem but I can't seem to find how to get there
    Edit:
    Found clip quantization:
    https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/launching-clips/
It's set to global. Even on off or on 1/2 it does not allow longer notes than 1/4. Weird...

Press and hold the note while pushing in the encoder and turning it.
