This might have been asked before... if so please point me to the threads and lock this one.

Can a Maschine that has eight knobs (so excluding the Mikro) substitute a Komplete Kontrol S keyboard function wise? Obviously, it doesn't have the keys with the light guide and no touch strips but that's not what I'm talking about. I have a master keyboard and don't require the light guide but I do need the pads for sample/drum programming and I own K10U. So some questions are: Do the Maschine encoders have the exact same function using the Komplete Kontrol software in Logic Pro X and standalone as the ones on the KK keyboard? Will the controlled parameters be shown in the Maschine displays? Will I be able to browse through my sample libraries in the KK software just using Maschine?

Maschine hardware knobs does the same in Maschine what KK keyboard knobs do in KK software. Mappings are the same.
This is when you use KK keyboard with Maschine software. But I doubt if you can control KK Soft with Maschine hardware.
Can try this out when I get home.

Thanks I appreciate that! I managed to find a more recent pdf manual for Maschine but it's 700 pages and will take me a while to find what I need to know...

Maschine was not designed for the KK software and does not work with it at all. You need to use it with the Maschine software which has all the features of KK software and more with the exception of the DAW focus follow.

I think that sums it all.

Hi Teemeister. I think Jiloo and B-Righteous covered your questions; just in case:
Maschine will give you the same information about the sound, displayed on screens instead of scribble strips.

Yes, they can be; it will depend on what mode you're in, but with the push of a button you can call up that info on the screens.

You can browse through them using the Maschine software and hardware.

If you don't need the light guide etc. functionality, you don't need KK software or hardware. Just use Maschine.

    Thank you all! :)
So I'll be getting a Maschine (Mk 2) then... and the Maschine software (plugin) is going to replace Komplete Kontrol. Hopefully, loading instruments/plugins inside the Maschine AU plugin works well. Does anybody have any experience with that? Does this "wrapping" cause any noticeable overhead?

Maschine as an AU plug-in within Logic works just fine....

One of the cool features of using KK keyboard with Maschine (a least for me) is that it is focused on a plugin. You can switch to channel setting, group, master etc. on Maschine and KK knobs will still control plugin parameters.

As for using AU. Maschine works fine as an AU and plugin loaded as AU inside Maschine work fine too. But there is one thing that works better with VST. If you switch to mixer view VST shows gui of a plugin (at least for NI plugins) and with AU you get simplified view. But it's not a big deal at all.

This is why my initial idea was to get a KK keyboard with the knobs/light guide/touch strips and the nice Fatar AND Maschine Mikro with the 16 drum pads. Best of both worlds, I guess, but also about twice as expensive.
I'm puzzled as to why NI develops two types of software, namely Komplete Kontrol AND Maschine instead of simply adding the "new" KK features to Maschine software. Depending on your setup the software en-/disables features...

    Prepare to be puzzled ;)
Jiloo, just a heads up, if you expand those AU plug-ins, you get the full graphics, but yeah, they are definitely a dull monotonous grey in their initial state.

But this is exactly how this works. You have KK software for those who don't own Maschine. To use it in every other software. But if you own Maschine all things works just inside Maschine software. It's really well integrated.

Thanks for the heads up - will check it when I get back home.

I think @Jiloo meant within the 'Plug-In Strip' not popped out within the mixer view. only NI plug-ins appear with full GUI in the strip sadly. maybe in the future this could be different? NKS should be expanded to add this option really

This is how this works for me. Absynth AU version on the left and VST on the right.

Of course you can have full version of a plugin – still below the mixer. And you can see all your plugins without opening them in separate window. Unfortunately this works only for NI plugins. Third party VST looks like AUs.

Haven't seen your post before I posted my pictures.
It will be great to see all plugins GUI, but I guess it's all in the hands of developers.

We're both saying the same thing in different ways.
