    Hi everyone,

I have seen some live-performance vids and can not figure out HOW exactly to achieve exactly that.

    or

F.E. do I only use one Group for more flexibility?
Or do I use muliple groups?

Any Step-by-step guides on how to achieve this for Live performances?

I want to integrate Maschine in my into my Traktor DJ setup, but not only as a Drumcomputer.

    Thanks in advance

Looks like the first video uses two groups and some macros. Nothing too crazy, he's just very fluent in using Maschine:
    1) utilizes note repeat / arp to program quantized drums and synth arps
    2) goes in and out of recording mode, in order to record new parts in on the fly
    3) Uses pad mutes and plays a few hits without recording engaged for extra spot sounds

You can totally achieve what he's doing, but first you need to have your muscle memory on point, then you need to plan what you want to do, select and mix all the sounds in advance so that their levels are dialed in, and lastly practice the performance so that you wont mess up and you have mental "choreography" in place.

The second video was much less sophisticated. Here the guy is clearly nervous.. you can even catch him freezing up in the video for a moment. His performance is mainly muting/unmuting groups and sounds and twiddling the macro knobs, with a few pattern changes thrown in. I'd say you can reach this level of "performance" in very short order, just by learning Maschine basics.

Biggest fundamental difference in the above videos is that the first one starts with an empty sequencer, if he just "pressed play", there would be no sound, whereas in the second video, all the sequencer patterns have been premade and he just launches and mutes/unmutes between them. The required skill level (so as to not f up) between these two performances is quite big. You could actually achieve a very similar performance to the 2nd video just by utilizing remix decks and some clever fx mapping in Traktor, with the first video notsomuch.

Thanks for these tips tetsuneko , they are gold.
I really get to get deeper into all the features Maschine offers and train that muscle memory to get to something inbetween both vids.

I think for my purpose working on one Group with premade custom Kits might the best.
This way I can use multiple kits (one per goup) and use premade rythms and build sounds/sequences/arps "on-the-fly".

    Hey! nice thread.
I am always looking for new ways to work with Maschine in live context. My actual live set (30/40 min) has Maschine as the main piece of gear.

I find it very useful to use one Group for all drum sounds, and then one Group per synth. This way I have direct access to all parts. I can mute/unmute without having to dive into different groups.

    Hope this helps

There are many ways to go about things. I'm still far from getting close to playing live with Maschine, but I already know I want to be using both patterns and scenes for switching things up on the fly, as well as utilizing lock states, which can be used for muting as well. There's actually so many ways to play it that it's going to take a bit of experimenting to find the best approach in my case. Also depends on the project I intend to play Maschine live with, as I like to dabble in multiple genres and styles of music. I'd probably want to use a different approach for a hiphop gig than for a techno gig, and so on..
