i struggle to see the point of this.
maschine isn't exactly big and you still need a powerful computer and a decent audio interface to use it, so a $150 dollar saving on a controller shouldn't be a big factor.

Agreed but from there business perspective it will attract those users NEWBIES that wouldn't spend the extra dollar on the full version. It's good business, but a pain in the @$$ for us whom are awaiting more functionality of the software for free...

I second that. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on the original Maschine, but I don't really know now with this other one.

the software is the same, and there's 16 pads dawg where did the number 32 come into the equation wait 4x4 - 32 sorry my bad dawg

    so that's 8 groups cos the software is the same A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H
    ---
yo I don't mean to sound aggressive but you come accross as a bit of a douche here,
I'm actually trying to imagine pads half the size, nah I still don't think that would make a lot of people happy

an opinion don't take it personaly and please stop repeating yourselves how self-important are you people?
    ---
see! more portable, more affordable, same size pads, generating the interest of a real human! (not a computer like me)
    ---
ok I'm going to promise myself never to visit this thread ever again or this forum for that matter, wow, nice crowd, reeeeeeeal friendly

Pays for our free updates maybe

Okay dig, if this totally helps sell more units to people that otherwise wouldnt buy Maschine and helps NI continue the advancement of Maschine for free up to or past 2.0, then it ain't hurting any of us to have them release this thing as I'm sure it really didn't take that much resources away from the advancement of the Maschine Software Dev.

Though, the ability to use both the full and mikro at the same time on Maschine, I also think that'd be pretty awesome if that is or would become possible and they could sell even MORE of these units to people who already have a full Maschine opposed to those who just want to get in on the ground floor with a dope sampler like Maschine.

For those cats that would pick it up for like 250 less than a normal Maschine or even 170 cheaper than the Academic, this will definitely sell units and if there is an academic version of the mikro, that thing is flying out the door like whoa.

So for that matter, this might not help a lot of people that already own Maschine right out the gate, but if they sell a ton of these and NI stays good with us, it'll help fund that next level of Maschine like multi-core, side chaining and the all holy time-stretch.

    Just my opinion though.

    ---
I think it looks pretty cool how it is tbh, I'm not buying one as I have the full thing already, but if it did work together simultaneously with the full sized one, that'd be a pretty awesome combo opening up some insane ideas.

They could have maybe left some knobs and cut some pads, as an idea to keep more knob functionality and keep the pads the same size so that cats with thick fingers can still hit the pads too, but maybe that will be for the Maschine mid-level.

I could see a Mikro with 8-12 pads before I could see one ever with small sized pads, when going up against the MPC's, the pads and feeling of hitting them is always the thing first and most compared. I think NI understands this.

can we keep this thread to questions about Mikro.

if you want to have a debate about why NI have released Mikro, start another thread ;)

and Keir, it would be great if we could have some answers a.s.a.p.

    cheers

I've never participated in the Q&A stage of a new product. Maybe the more experienced forum members know how this goes. But it seems that Keir and the NI team opened this just for questions. And they will probably answer everything in the next on the record (because it has been ages since anyone's touched that thread).

Anyhow, the way this looks to me is Mikro has all the functionality of the original but in a small and more compact body, so it'll be "more" portable (not that the original Maschine isn't portable). And my first thought when thinking about the question of Mikro being a suppliment to Maschine--being able to use them both at the same time is "HOW"? There's one install of maschine with one version. Unless the install patch is called Mikro Maschine v.1 and is appart from the original and I don't think that's the case. No, I think this is just a slightly less expensive alternative to Maschine especially for prospective users who are thinking about getting Maschine but are having slight doubts. And/or the controller you take w/you instead of bringing the big brother.

It's just Maschine with less bells and whistles on the body, and they even say it comes with Maschine 1.7 + K8 "lite". I'm not the authority here but like it or not, that's probably the jist of it all. Smaller controller, full functionality, stand alone or plugin (like the original), packaged w/latest update, and an iphone app (like the original), happy beat making session and see ya on the next update.

Good point! But I think its industry standard to have 16 pads. AKAI have led the way.
But I would feel better if the Mikro had a firewire connection.

Does the MIKRO work as a stand alone MIDI controller for some DAW or Traktor as well? Machine does, but it's not mentioned on MIKRO product page.

@kerma - looks like it - I can bring MIKRO up in the Controller Editior and change MIDI noted/CCs etc
    @warren1814 - cost probably

    Why?

Sorry to break it to you, but you won't see a lot (or any) more gear coming out with firewire.

I wasn't talking about the number of pads, I was talking about the size of them.
