Maschine Mikro vs Mk3 when I already have a Komplete S49?

So I recently got a Komplete S49 (the one with the screens) after returning my Ableton Push 2, and while I love the keys on the Komplete, I’m missing the pads from the Push.

This has lead me to look into getting either a Maschine Mikro, or just step up to the full Maschine Mk 3, but it seems like the Komplete does a lot of the functions I’d be able to do with the full Maschine, but I’m not sure.

Would I have a lot of redundant functionality with the full-size Maschine, or would it give me an advantage over the Mikro?

    First... welcome to the forums!

It heavily depends on what you want 'out' of it. First... keep in mind that the Maschine controller is mostly tied with the Maschine software which means that there will be some overlap because Maschine would acces the same NI libraries (and NKS compliant VST's) as Komplete Kontrol. The main difference between the Mk3 and the Mikro is that you can set up pretty much everything from behind the controller with the Mk3. With the Mikro otoh you have to set up things yourself within the software (so: using mouse & keyboard) after which you can play things on the controller.

But... another important factor: what DAW are you using?

You mentioned Push, so I assume Live? That can be of influence as well. If this is about pads and playing pads there are more alternatives also... For example... what about an Novation launchpad?

I'm using both Push & Maschine myself and well, although I love working with both very much there is a huge difference in functionality. For what's it worth I usually use my Maschine only for NI / NKS related products, not more, whereas I use my Push to play everything available within Live.

First off, I love your icon! Evangelion is my favorite show of all time.

I am kinda between Logic and Live now, honestly...I'm still new to this whole music thing and can't decide on which DAW I want to commit to...interestingly, the S49 has liberated me from being so tied to Ableton with the Push, so it has me considering Logic again.

I think I might just be looking for a pad controller, honestly, and the Launchpad Mini or even the Akai MPD218. I don't really have any plans for performing, so clip launching isn't too important for me, but I am into chopping up samples, so the MPD218 is looking pretty attractive right now...

Makes sense. Can't really comment here because I never worked with Logic myself, only DAW's I often use(d) are Live, Reaper and Reason.

What I can advice though is that you pick something that suits you and allows you to have some fun with it and/or get some work done. Always keep the "unwritten rule" in mind that: "What works for me doesn't have to work for you".

And also one of the Maschine features ;)

Well, I do hope this gave you some ideas. Starting out can be tricky.

If you already own an S49 MK2, I don't think you should buy the Maschine Mikro. The S49 already gives you all the functionality of the Mikro, plus the integrated screens. The MK3, on the other hand, gives you additional functions that are not available in the S49, and is a much better complement for it.
