Maschine Mikro - what can I do with it without the software?

    Hi

I'm a complete and utter novice in terms of music production so if you can't bear these kind of basic and slightly stupid questions please look away now. If however you have a strong stomach please read on as I would really appreciate some help.

I've just bought a Maschine Mikro on eBay, but it sadly comes without any of the software. I probably shouldn't have bought it, but got a little carried away with the bidding, so I shall soon be the proud owner of the hardware, but with no idea of what I can do with it.

So, my questons are....what can I do with the Maschine Mikron hardware without the accompanying software? And is there anywhere that I can get the software from?

I have an NI audio interface that comes with Komplete, but I wasn't sure if this can be used with the Maschine. I also have a Korg Kaossilator and a Alesis Micron.

I know the Mikro will make a lovely door stop or paper weight, but if there's any more musical application for it then I'd appreciate any help in identifying what that is.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Cheers

    :eek::(

you might just have made an expensive mistake :S

you could try going to the Free Driver Updates:

    http://co.native-instruments.com/?id=freeupdates

choose Maschine Controller and Maschine Mikro Controller Driver

back on the updates page is the Controller Editor Application.

the only thing you will be able to do with the above apps is to make the Mikro behave like a Pad Controller - you will not have the Maschine Software.

good luck, i have no idea whether you will get this to work at all without the Maschine Software install.

Was the seller up front about there not being software included?

If they advertised this as the full package, you could work with them to get the software they owe you - but if they said it was controller only, you are out of luck. Best bet would be to resell it as a controller only - being very honest about it to the next guy, and get yourself the real thing from a dealer.

It will be useful to someone whom already owns a full Maschine 1 package who is seeking a more compact controller when travelling ... or someone looking to run dual sets of Maschine pads at once. I think you'll find a buyer for it somewhere out there.

    cheers

you can use the hardware with most software if you havent got it..just set it up as a midi controller in your daw in cubase its very esy to do and i can use the maschine hardware to control groove agent3/groove agent one/lm7/halion..but too be honest if you can try and sell it and buy one with the full software or hold fire and try and buy maschine software from ebay..

    Thanks

    Hi

Thanks everyone for all your very helpful comments and for resisting the urge to tell me to use it under the leg of a wobbly table or as a fancy coaster....

Luckily I didn't spend too much on it so if I can sell it for a reasonable price then the mistake won't have cost me too much. I bought it on eBay and the seller was very upfront as to the fact the software wasn't included - I just decided to take a punt so the mistake is all my fault.

Sowari / djwaxxy - thanks for the suggestions on what I can use it for, much appreciated, but I think I'll sell it and try to get the complete version.

645576 / jasefos /kcearl - completely agree selling the unit is the best way forward for me and reinvesting in the complete version.

TJ - sounds good, the unit has only been once by the seller as they only wanted the software so is in like new condition (although I haven't received it as yet). The unit is boxed with the USB cable.

Thanks again everyone - appreciate your advice on this.

    Cheers

    Tim

if you can spring the extra money get the full maschine because in the longterm you can save more.

mikro isnt eligable for the cheap komplete upgrades but maschine is thats why i bought maschine.if you buy a mikro and komplete 9 comes out youll have to pay full price which is over £400 but the upgrades are about £180

unless the ebay ad clearly stated that it was controller only, no software, then you can lodge a protest through ebay to get your money back.. regardless of whether the unit was "no refunds accepted"..
or you can contact the seller and ask for him to release his software account with NI and give you the serial number.. the prospect of negative feedback is a powerful thing and motivates sellers to do the right thing..(usually)

Thanks - hadn't considered the cost of upgrades to Komplete before, glad you pointed that out. I think the full Maschine is the way to go. Just need to see if my bank balance can take the strain!

Hi Mystic38. The seller was complete upfront with what was included, it was purely my mistake in buying it. If they hadn't been though I would definetly have taken your advice and escalated it to eBay. Thanks.

Hi TJ - are you in the UK? If not I'm assuming the cost of shipping it to you may not make it very worthwhile for you. Let me know. Thanks.

Sorry Sowari, rookie mistake. I can't send private messages yet as I haven't got the right level of access yet, but won't talk about selling here.
