Has anyone tried using Maschine inside Propellerhead Reason 10 as a VST plugin instrument? I am planning to purchase Reason 10 because of it supports VST now. I use both Maschine and Reason 5 separately. I want to use it at the same time now in a single workstation.

Yup it works. Couple of gotchas to watch out for..

    1) Reason doesn't support multitimbral VSTs, so that means you can only send a single channel of midi (ie CH1) to the Maschine plugin. For standard usage Maschine and/or simple DAW routing it's fine but for more custom DAW routing could be a problem.

    2) VSTs in Reason only support 8 stereo outs to the host. So if you want to route all 16 Maschine outputs for a group to Reason's SSL mixer you'll need to workaround.

    3) Reason 10 currently has HORRIBLE VST performance. There are many, many threads about this over at the Reasontalk forums. I'd say its 4x to 5x worse than other DAWs at the moment. Maschine is a CPU hog already so keep that in mind. If you're just running Maschine + internal Reason devices you should be alright. However if you run Maschine plus a bunch of other VSTs in Reason you could run in to problems quickly.

Hopefully all of this gets better over time. So the simple answer is yes it works, but it runs much better in other DAWs b/c of the aforementioned reasons.

Thank you for the response! I'll take note of them! I'm starting to think if VST in Reason 10 has horrible VST performance, I will be leaning more towards Ableton Live now as it has the option to use AU instead of VST. Usually I run Maschine plus other VSTi like Hybrid 3 and Sonivox TWiST within Maschine as group (A to H) per VST instrument. :)

Didn't know about the 8-out limitation. Wow That's a bummer.

Yeah all that fancy routing you were thinking about doing goes right out the window.

Number 1 and 2 put the final nail in the Reason coffin for me. You cant have a sequencer trac sending MIDI using different channels to Maschine, Kontakt, Omnispshere, etc... Adding VST without this is silly, I don't want to have multiple instances of the same instruments if I don't need to, especially Maschine (since it has its own dedicated controllers). Now they updated to 10 and just added new instruments and not much else... for me, that was just ridiculous.
