There have already been many discussions and threads about this…but I can’t seem to find any concrete workarounds to converting stereo-mono in Maschine.

So, how do some of you go about converting a left stereo or right stereo channel into mono? Let’s say you wanted to grab the left stereo channel because it has a more prominent recording of a kick or hi hat compared to the right…are there any tips or suggestions any of you swear by when you come across this problem in Maschine?

I wish there was a feature in Maschine (similar to that of the old MPC, for example) to easily choose between L and R channels in stereo, and then convert that channel into mono…but I guess that’s the trade off because there’s no denying Maschine has some pretty clever features as an answer to old sampler/drum machine problems.

but anyways, PLEASE let me know if you have a technique or tip you’d recommend for this issue.

    Cheers!

I would edit the samples in Audacity. With the audio file open and selected, Choose "Mix" from the "Tracks" menu and "Mix down to stereo".

If you want to reduce the volume of one channels, change the panning first, then mix down to stereo.

If you have reaktor, creating a utility for this function is straight forward. I've been playing around with a small utility to let me pick between combined mono, left or right mono, mids, sides; all with a dry/wet to mix with the original signal. Reaktor has quite the learning curve, but this kind of utility is pretty basic.

I have another version that's left/right mono, but I can pan first. And that pan has a beat synced LFO on it. Why? lol. I wanted to see if I could.

I use the waves S1 plugin if using the computer. The reaktor stuff works in maschine +. At some point, I'll get it to a place where I just no longer use S1.

I've slept on it for so long; but reaktor is all sorts of amazing.

Even with the learning curve it sounds like it’s worth it. What utility do you use in Reaktor for that function specifically? You said you came up with it yourself? Is there a way you could describe how to do that ? Thanks!

Thank you. Yeah it seems like Audacity is a reliable way to do it. Many people swear by it.

Reaktor has so many modes. Blocks have prebuilt stuff that you just string together. I think I'm working in primary. Then there's this other one that is geekcon 10.

The basic concept is just modifying signal flow. Stereo input into a mixer to control input volume. I split it off into macros to make it easier to track. Each macro would modify the signal and feed into a device that let's me switch between them. Then out to another mixer to control volume.

I wouldn't be the right guy to do a tutorial; but it's really easy once you get your head around the basics. Then you've realized that reaktor = pandora's box. What if I split to mid/side, and then feed the sides through a delay, and that feeds through a grain delay that has pitch on a LFO and... and the original can go through a ping pong delay that goes into a reverb that's ducked by the mid signal and...

Going way off topic; but people keep comparing features from the MPCs to maschine +; but maschine+ has reaktor. Bruh... You mad because m+ doesn't have a delay that can use milliseconds instead of beats? Go make a delay in reaktor. Build it so you can expand later and... fear that rabbit hole because that's your life now.

Here's one example in the user library. I've not used it, but I'm betting it the same basic concept:

Thank you! This certainly helps me wrap my head around it…definitely a little daunting though. Better now than never I suppose.

Yeah it seems that way for sure, but clearly I guess there are many ways around it. Thank you!
