hey guys. i had been thinking about getting an mpc and some gear for about two years now and i had just recently decided to stop wasting time and just do it. i found something on youtube about the Maschine by accident and it looked really interesting. the MPC seems more like one piece of a puzzle, where Maschine appears to be a more standalone player. i was just wondering what pieces of geari absolutely need to have in order to get a feel for what the Maschine can really do. any info that you guys can give me as far as newbie tips, or do's and dont's would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

    all you need

    1: a pc or maC
    2: amplifier + speakers
    3: soundcard

End of story - it has everything you need, synths (sampled), analogue instruments (piano etc) massive amounts of drum samples, effects, huge pattern structures and scenes to make full tracks.

Oh yes--- lots of patterns and tracks created by pro's so you can view how to do stuff

if you have an audio sequencer such as cubase as well that would be a bonus but its not necessary as the maschine runs on its own or as a plug

buy it - you wont regret it

    good luck

Widowmaker is spot on, but personally I love using a keyboard with Maschine to really put a personal touch on the provided instruments.

I would say buy everything Widow listed first (a soundcard and near field moniters especially) get comfy with how maschine works, THEN go buy a 25 key usb keyboard if you feel like you're missing something.

I would have to suggest the new KRK Rokit5, they're only $150 each and sound reeeeaeaaallllyyyy good.

idk what your money situation is but you could get away with just buying one for now, then buying the other in the near future.

I like KRKs because they're "active" moniters, which means you dont need to purchase a separate amplifier.

Also check out the Mackie MR5s, heard really good things about the them. Also the Tascam VLA-5s are sposed to be very good and there are the new reveal 501s from Tannoy.

I have an mpc and some people may think it's taboo to say, but if I had to choose as a newbie to production, the macshine is the fastest way to get you going, more so than an mpc.
