That's right. I'm challenging you to make a song using only sounds from any one kit from any Maschine Expansion or Factory content, and share it to show us what you've got.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one who owns more Maschine Expansions than I'll ever know what to do with. An overwhelming amount of sound that I'll never be able to use. So a few months ago, I pulled up a random kit from an Expansion and said "I'm making a song using only the sounds in this kit". Initially, it was just for practice and change of pace from other projects. I'd spend 20-30 minutes every other day. Over the past months, its evolved into more of a personal challenge to see what I could actually create using a limited sound set but at the same time not having to worry about sound selection or having to sort through a million different presets or VST parameters to find a sound.
So dust off those old expansion packs , find a kit and create !
This is NOT a battle as there will be no voting or prizes for anything. It could be considered a competition but my real goal is creating a common challenge using simple idea to see what others can create using only NI sounds. This has no connection with the NI Beat Battles, and I have obtained permission from NI.
I hope there will be participation from different experience levels of Maschine users, but realize this is not for everyone and some might laugh at the idea. So be it. But who knows, maybe it will turn into something and generate some interesting discussions about Maschine or music production in general. I'm always up for learning newe techniques, tips, tricks, ideas, etc. I'm hoping to learn something from the community that I haven't learned already (and showcase NI's sounds at the same time).

    Challenge Guidelines:
    1) Songs must be composed from sounds from any one Maschine Expansion or Factory group (kit). You may add/change effects but would recommend sticking as true to the samples as possible
    2) Songs should be 1.5 to 3 minutes long, but song length is not a requirement. (Please just don't do 30 seconds and call that a song)
    3) Songs may be arranged and mixed in Maschine or any DAW of your choice. Upon request, you should be willing to share your maschine project files with the community if someone wants to see how you composed the song parts in Maschine.

Feel free to post questions or any suggestions here, or pm me.

    Nice initiative!

Been wanting to do something with rising crescent, really like this experiment. I might give it a go when I have time.

@Ghost_Fuku - thanks for joining the challenge. Groovy little tune you have there. I like the bass build at 0:38. Mix sounds pretty good to me :D

And yes, this challenge is a great way to 'warm up' or find some inspiring sound to build something bigger .

I've added your track to the list . Hope to see more beats from you !

hello, not sure if this one is eligible, using a kit from NEON DRIVE expansion pack ...
I think the only things I had edited are drums and some vocal/FX.
other than that all is as the original kit ...

@maschinistom - Great track. No complaints here :D. I'll take your word that it qualifies for the challenge. Which kit from NEON DRIVE you use ? That way I can tag it in the challenge summary.

hello, not sure this one is qualified, please check, it's the 'Tokyo' kit in Neon Drive expansion pack.
just added some vocals and drums. rest is 100% the same .. oh and I changed the BPM of course to match drum n bass ...;)
    Cheers

This is a good challenge. Whenever I get a new maschine expansion I always try to make a beat and then a song out of a single kit just to see if I can do it.

It'll be interesting to hear how different or how similar peoples songs will sound when they use the same Maschine kit to make a song.

You should make a thread in the main Maschine forum about this "1 kit challenge" to get more people involved.

@Hit-Man - Glad to see you are up for the challenge. :) I might post this in the Maschine forum as you suggested, thanks. Its not something I expected much of participation but at least now we have a few people involved.

@maschinistom - I listened to your track again in comparison to the Tokyo kit from Neon Drive. I can't qualify your track because you added other samples or sounds that are not part of the kit, but still appreciate the submission and its a great track ! Hope to see you submit another one here. The more people we get involved, the more interesting this challenge will get ;)

.. as I said, all sounds/synths are 100% from the kit, only added vocals and drums.
PS: u might think synths sound different because BPM is changed from 120 to 172.

Mmmm, makes sense, so in that case it counts. I'm really trying to be flexible on the rules to encourage participation. I've added it to the challenge summary. Thanks again for the participation. I hope to see more from you.

thanks man, and no worries, I would have accepted if this track doesn't comply your comp rules. just wondered why ..
maybe as a suggestion for your next comp change the target to encourage a bit more creativity, such as:
"take any factory maschine kit and create anything out of it, however main parts (melody/rhythm) should remain recognisable"
I understand people would end up arguing what is still 'recognisable' and what not :)

Wait a minute... so we can use "drums" from somewhere else? I Thought "All" the sounds had to be from 1 kit.

Lol. Ok, rules are rules, and fair is fair so I've removed maschinistom 's track from the challenge summary. Going forward, only samples from the kit can be used, however, this is limited to the extent that I can actually verify what samples were actually used in the song (I don't own all the expansions, thank god :D). I'm trying to keep this fun but not too restrictive at the same time. The whole idea was to remain true to the samples in the kits so that is the main rule that will remain intact.

@maschinistom - I know you can come up with something great

maybe I could .. but I believe more in transforming sounds into something new, instead of using kits as they are ..

Yeah, minor changes like that are fine. As long as you stay true to the original samples, which you have done in this case.

Chaotic stuff. While it seems unorganized, I think that's what keeps it interesting. You must be practicing those time signatures for the Beat Battle. ;).

I've added to the challenge summary. Thanks for the participation . Hope to see more from you !
