hey guys, i know you must get this question all the time, but i recently bought a mashine and im literally completely new to making music, maschine was my first piece of gear. i love how i can easily build loops, and play it like an instrument. my question is, as of 1.6 where you can host vsts, what does a primary production program like an ableton or logic give you, that maschine cant? my friends use those programs, and it seems like making music on them is so unnatural, they are using the mouse more than anything and i would hate that. i love maschine, but should i take the time to start dipping my toes into a bigger program like one of those? do they have more/better effects? do they "sound better"? or is maschine damn near the same nowadays? i really appreciate anyone who takes the time to help. thanks in advance.

    Hi

I would stick with learning machine standalone in and out. I have been using ableton and studio one less since getting maschixne but they will have here uses when I start laying down my track for mixing and mastering. It is best to learn what you have now rather than delving intbo lots of other software which I used do years ago.

As lodng ass you understand the scene modes in maschine then it is more than capable of making a full track. If you don't like the effects in machine then just download lots of free vst effects and synths from kvr and other websites. Loook for all the TAL plug ins which are great and free.

Machine is great music making tool compared to conventional daws with stuck at a screen with a mouse and keyboard, depends what you prefer though as well, I wqork on pc all day at work so it is nice to come home and turn off my monitor.

I agree, understand what you have now... once mastered move on to the next thing. So what are some of the ways you can do this while your friends are using DAWs (FLStudio, Abelton, Project 5, Pro Tools, Sonar, Cubase, Digital Performer, Nuendo, Sony Acid Pro, etc)?

Start making those beats...build a library of tracks made through Maschine and sell or share them with your friends. Right now, your a one man band with the maschine. Being vry familiar with it will be cost effective for you friend and you get paid.

Just a thought! Be encourage and make those beatz!

Get to grips and master Maschine. You've invested the money in it, now invest the time that it deserves. You will then be able to find out for yourself if there are any gaps in what you're doing that you can't do with Maschine and then look elsewhere.

And whether a program or its effects or anything else (music in general, for example) is "good" is very subjective. Of course there might be technical reasons why x is better than y or whatever but when it comes down to things like this, if you're happier working with the "worst" program, then use it.

Maschine, however, is far from the worst program. Arguably one of the best. But that is, of course, my opinion.

I use both Maschine and Logic, but I don't see any reason you have to have Logic (or Ableton Live, or Cubase, or whatever). It does make it easier to drop in a vocal track on top of your beat, but there's more than one way to do that, so I would suggest that you keep learning the ins and outs of Maschine, and become totally familiar with it before adding another complex program to your learning curve.
