Just curious about what each "sound" has in terms of sound sculpting in maschine. Ie, does each sound have a basic envelope, loop points, tone (besides using an eq in fx I mean), and those kinds of things?

On a separate note, can midi sent by the sequencer track trigger different patterns/scenes in maschine? And everything's automatable from the sequencer track?

    thanks

Each Sound is a Sampler with a choice of Envelopes of Volume shaping and a Modulation Envelope and LFO for modulating various things including filter Pan, Pitch Etc. each Control in the Samplers can have recorded Automation in Maschine. there are 5 Pages of Controls for each Sampler!

Programme Change Messages can be sent to Maschine to change the current Scene that is being played.

Automation of Maschine Controls is recorded inside the Maschine Software.

That's cool that each sound has a filter, thus saving you having to use one the two fx slots for that. :)

Strange about he automation though. So if you're at a certain part of your song in your sequencer, say 3'44", and you think "I want to change the filter on the snare here gradually", you can't do it in your sequencer, so you actually have to find the point in maschine's automation timeline that lines up with that point in time in your sequencer? That almost sounds like it could be more trouble than it's worth.... Hopefully I'm missing something there.

It's not really that much of a problem. You'd play your project, tweak Maschine's knobs at the appropriate time and save your host's project.

Ok fair enough, but for editing automation, it's good to have it over top of the arrangement of your song to see where everything lines up. Same with drum patterns. It's a shame you can send a midi note to trigger different patterns in maschine like you can with Logic's ultrabeat or reasons redrum inside each of those sequencers. But I understand you can change patterns in your sequencer by sending program change, which is ok I guess. But then add the fact that the automation is written in a separate timeline from the rest of your seqeunces, I don't think it's very good daw integration.

To be honest, I'd rather that the automation was sent to the DAW ala Kore myself. Maybe in an update...

If I understand you correctly, I totally agree. In fact I just made a post along similar lines.

    ?

maybe i am misunderstanding you. Automation is written into each Pattern, so as far as i am concerned it is the same timeline. if you know which scene is playing at a certain point, you know which Patterns are playing and which Automation in those Patterns.

No, I meant that the automation is written in a different timeline from the sequences of your other tracks in your DAW, not a different timeline from your drum patterns in maschine.

There's one thing I don't quite get about how the automation is handled (in it's current state). All the automation is "local" to the pattern. That's fine, I get that. Then you build your song by repeating these patterns with their local automation - cool. But now say you want some automation to play out over the course of the whole song. Can automation overlap these repeated patterns so that you can get bigger gestures going? I'm doubting that, which is one reason I could see for doing "long-form" automation in the host.

    Does my question make sense?
    Thanks!

That is very cool. Not to derail the discussion, but along these lines...if I want to use more than two fx on a sample, can I easily "resample" the effected sound to another pad, and then add two more fx on it...and so on and so on?

I see that Maschine can record itself, but does that mean I'd actually have to record a hit, or can this be done through dragging or menus? (hope I'm making sense)

easch sound can have 2 fx as point out, there are also 2 Aux sends that can be used for further fx. also the Group that includes the sound can have 2 fx.

btw, recording internally is very easy and very flexible.

maybe you want some automation going the entire length of the song in addition to s automation that has been recorded for Patterns that are played back in Scenes?.

it would help me if you gave an example of what you want to do musically. then i could tell if it is possible.

Yes, thanks Sowari, that's exactly it. Like say you want to automate the decay or release parameter for a kick drum over the entire length of a song. Would this be possible in some way?

This also leads me to the question, if you repeat the same pattern twice, is the second pattern dependent on the first or independent? In other words, if you changed something in the second would the first change also?

    THANKS!

    ;)

in theory, it would be possible if you used one scene for the entire length of the song. the longest pattern in a scene can govern how long that scene lasts for if you want. but yes, this is an interesting one because it would be nice to be able to have overlapping patterns (some patterns stay active even when the scene changes) but at the moment, this can't be done.

if you have 2 Scenes and the first scene plays Pattern A1 for a Drum Group and the second Scene, Plays Pattern A2. You could also have the Bass part playing Pattern A1 in both Scenes. so with the Bass Part, A1 would be the same Pattern. but with the Drums A1 and A2 are different - either totally different or a slight change.

to clarify, if I changed something in A1 of the Bass, then both A1s would be changed. but i could copy and paste A1 to A2 and make 1 change to A2.

    does that help?

    Yes, that helps thank you.
That's how I was thinking it worked. And because of the "local automation" I could see the benefit of letting the host do longer-form automation.

    But anyway, thanks!
