    Hi all,

Just ran into a MIDI port issue with my new Motu Ultralight MK3 Hybrid soundcard and Maschine standalone...
Basically in Machine standalone's audio and midi settings i want to enable both Maschine's own physical midi in and out, as well as the Ultralight's midi in and out.
I would like to use both at the same time... This should work, no?
Because right now doing this just makes Maschine crash or freeze, and then i can't change the midi settings in Maschine anymore, unless i forcequit Maschine and either disconnect the Ultralight or the Maschine Controller... very inconvenient.
Anyone else had luck doing this? Can it be done at all?

    Bump up the jam...

Anyone know if the above can be done? Is it possible in Maschine Standalone to enable Maschine's and your soundcard's midi ports, both at the same time?... Without crashing?

sounds like you are getting MIDI feedback here.

what would be useful is you talk about a scenario where you would want this. why would you want both Ins and Outs to be active?

Basically, since i'm short in Midi ports compared to how much gear i want to hook up to Maschine, i just want to use all the ports that i have available, i.e. the ports of my Motu Ultralight and the ports of Maschine.
Now i have no idea if this is possible at all, the only thing i can say for the moment is that Maschine crashes every time i try, and this is even before plugging anything in those ports...
My guess is that it should be possible to send midi data to several midi out ports at once, no?
The MPC has several midi outs built in for instance.

but you still have not said why you need to have all IN and Outs active.

for me it is clear that you are sending MIDI Out of maschine to something and then that is coming back into maschine and being sent out again, hense the crash.

so Maschine crashes every time you try what?

Thx Sowari for trying to help out!

I need the 2 outs to sequence a Nord Lead and a TR-707, and the 2 in's for a midi keyboard (to play notes) and a midi controller (to send CC's to Maschine macros).

Anyway after several attempts i finally managed to enable all my available midi ports in the Maschine Standalone settings, meaning both Mashine's in and out, and the Ultralight's in and out. This is now working.

But, to achieve this, i've figured out that i have to unplug the Maschine Controller before enabling the Ultralight's midiports, otherwise the Maschine Controller hangs and crashes.
Speaking of which, since i added the Ultralight to my setup recently, Maschine has been crashing a lot, to the extent that i can't launch Maschine with the Controller plugged in... so a lot of plugging-unplugging here, and crashes if i forget... Very annoying.
Maybe a driver issue/conflict i need to address to NI's tech support?

if you are getting crashlogs, you should definitely contact tech support.

btw, can't you connect the 707 to the Nord? MIDI Thru from the Nord to MIDI In of the 707? also can't you do the same for the MIDI Inputs?

have you updated the Ultrlites Drivers?

fwiw, i have not had crashes when using my Ultralite, but then i have not ever used such a complrx MIDI scenario as you.

are you using a hub for Maschine or is it going straight into your Mac?

The thing is that i'm not getting crashlogs... unfortunately, it just freezes and that's it. The Maschine controller is connected directly to my laptop btw, which is a PC... and all drivers are up to date (both the Ultralight's and Maschine's)

Regarding the routing, i have other synths connected in midi thru already, so every available port is needed, that's why i want to use both the Ultralite's and Maschine's ports.
I know it's maybe a complex setup but it's just midi and should work regardless.
And actually it now does work, as long as i launch Maschine without the Maschine controller connected, otherwise the whole thing freezes.
I just don't get why this is happening.

As a side note, when i installing Maschine on my laptop, i always got a pop up from Windows 7 saying that the Maschine controller didn't install properly, but from reading through the forum it seems that it's a common thing and doesn't prevent it from working.
Besides, Maschine used to work fine with other sound cards, until i added the Ultralight.

I think i got the same problem..
my motu ultralite hybrid together with maschine is not working right.
On my older laptop, i could run the motu with disabled midi-driver, then i could plug the maschine in and it worked, till i close the maschine-software, or ableton (with what i´m normally working). after that my motu doesnt show up in windows 7 anymore till i disconnect the maschine, reconnect the motu and reconnect the maschine.
i think there is a general problem with the midi-drivers from motu, thats because i deactivated the mididriver.. i´dont remember exactly, but with my remote-sl-controller i had the same problems to use both midi-devices (ableton doesnt start up or freezes).
now i´m no pro at this, but i think the midi-drivers for windows 7 are bullsh** and cant run with more then one hardware-device.
by the way, i thought it could be a usb-problem - but now i have a firewire-pc with the motu connected - same problem..
