so the traktor under the FAQ says that it can function standalone without a computer

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/traktor/dj-controllers/traktor-kontrol-s8/faq/

I miss quoted what stems was...

I do agree, I don't think you will have actual standalone capabilities with a new Machine (for instance them placing the Machine factory library on the machine to play with)
    but its fun to dream

A usb hub would be good , where you could connect other n.i equipment, I'm 50/50 on the interface , it could be good having it in the box tho.

I would like to follow up on what AureVoir has posted...

In some sense, what I hope NI would release is its counterpart to the Roland AIRA MX-1, which now has its own integration with Ableton

For the sake of argument, I'll call it a "Z4" mixer.

Before I continue, please bear in mind that, like so many others, I came into production from a DJ background, though so far using Serato, rather than Traktor.

In fact, now that I've evolved into a NI–centered production environment, I've been fantasizing with a mixer that would allow me to more organically integrate my Maschine Studio, Jam, and Komplete Kontrol S–61, along with two or even four Traktor D2 decks.

Ideally, such a beefed–up "Z4" would be a 4–channel mixer with an on–board USB hub so that we could connect Studio, Jam, Komplete Kontrol, D2 decks, and other USB–centered gear to the mixer, and use only one USB cable running to the laptop.

Further, such a "Z4" mixer would also include MIDI In & Out ports, so we could connect other gear, as well as line–in inputs things such as turntables, plus the usual jacks for connecting microphones, and a full set of XLR, TRS, RCA, Booth–Monitor, and Record-Out outputs.

With Ableton Link now added to Maschine and Traktor, integrating all these units no longer requires NI to develop it's own proprietary protocol, like Roland did for the AIRA tools.

Personally, I don't have any viceral antipathy to continue using a laptop.

Heck, if Max Richter doesn't feel an inferiority complex for using a laptop in his avant-garde classic music performances, why should we? ;-)

Your laptop has to have a lot of power to try to run the Z4, komplete kontrol etc at once. I have two Z2's. I have one Z2 and two D2's going directly to the Z2 with two 1200's all connected to an i7 laptop with 16 gb ram (all at once). It's takes up a lot of cpu resources running all that stuff at once (the dj rig). What's most important for all this is you have the desktop or laptop to handle it.

I could see that happening. I do that with the D2's both going to the traktor Z2. My laptop doesn't like it some times lol. That would be a fun set-up though as for the maschine studio mk2 etc all connected together.

I have always suspected the goal for NI was to turn DJ's into live performers. with everything having lights and able to be synced, one could show up with an s8, mike, and s-25 and compose and mix and entire set without evening knowing music theory.

kk lets you play in the dark, machine lets you arrange and compose on the fly and tractor gives you the live elements and the decks.
so that personally why I feel we will see more mixing done with the jam to act as a performance mixer and attachment....

I personally think NI is up to something huge, here's my reason being. First off Native Instruments is VERY good at keeping surprises hidden and releasing huge hardware products out of nowhere. Secondly, AKAI seems like they are totally blowing the game up right now with their new groove production models having touch screens and standalone abilities. With that being said, NI knows that they need to step up their game and come up with something huge that will put AKAI below them again. It's been roughly 3-3 and a half years since we have seen an actual real Maschine model and (assuming the Maschine studio is still well with or ahead of its time) it's still at least somewhat old news and outdated to some point. I mean NI has done an excellent job as far as hardware goes (especially since a controller release hasn't been made for 3 years solid) but as far as software goes they know improvements can be made. And with that being said, software improvements means new features and new software features means new hardware features as well. I'm not saying this will happen soon but I personally think within this next year or year and a half or so we will be getting 3.0 with at LEAST one new huge Maschine flagship controller. A whole new arsenal of low end to high end luxurious controllers I think wouldn't be out of the question either. All I'm saying is I think something huge and a complete game changer is coming and to hold off on that tempting new Maschine studio price drop because NI wouldn't have dropped it if they didn't know that it's outdated and they need to step it up (which they easily can) I say start saving your money now because if native instruments is going to blow AKAI out of the water with their fancy touch screens and standalone capabilities they have out now, their new Maschine controller is gonna have to be pretty fancy and revolutionary to beat it. And it's going to definitely cost us some money when it drops. A lot of money...Thoughts??

So Interesting that you say that because all I see looking at bitwig is an ableton clone... everything is mashed onto the screen at one time like too much butter on too little bread. I get that the developers want to show what the guitar is capable of, but it's all so overwhelming to me. Less can be more with the interface and what is shown

From what I've read they've modularly designed Bitwig to hide complexity and keep it simple. You can unravel as much complexity as you choose. Perhaps when you see it in videos and screenshots, all they show is flashing lights so some people go... Cool! Or something. Also they keep using large touch screen displays to show it off.

seems like something new is on the way... they usually drop the price 3 months before a new version is out... it could be a new studio... but usually we see a preview of one at a music show long before a public release.. i am thinking it could be a new software version of maschine 3 and that they want to sell off the stock that has the previous version of 2.2 - 2-6 dvd first... at any rate.. this means that you can probably get one for under 7 bills now if you shop around...

all it mean is that maschine studio is an Eternal beta thing , and will finish unfinished ? and the next thing to come as already the same futur ...
NI make some very good things , but this side isn't pleasing me . but every thing in this century seems to go this way . so it doe's not make me dreaming . waiting is what we buy here .

Me no like complexity. Me just want it to go to 11.

But really though, I much prefer the idea of having things in different windows instead of playing the re-sizing game. I will take a look at this new bitwig though, my guitar center near me supposedly has an entire wall of DAWS to play around inside of and mess around with.
