Definitely, but for whatever reason, I love Maschine's layout (although using some features are pretty much controller-locked or prohibitive to use in the gui) and it's fun to work in it. I go stressed just looking at Ableton's GUI, it's too much information at once for me.

My thoughts too. Makes me curious to see what they could possibly think can be a better laid out and thought out controller than the Studio was with this next version.

I bet on a Jam/Studio hybrid, or Jam/Studio/Traktor hybrid. More of the same basically.

Or just a Jam Studio, they might want to roll it out pretty quickly with that fault around (I notice still no official word about it). I was actually very close to buying a Jam but stopped when I saw the issues.

I think a jam pro to add to the portfolio.

Not sure it's across the board, so if you did want one, just make sure you buy from a vendor with a good return policy (which I'd do anyway with this kind of kit, but especially with that issue as a possibility).

As for new hardware, I kind of hope that more isn't on the horizon, though there will be more in the next year or so, I'm sure (just because). I'd probably guess a Jam Studio too: Studio-esque size and design, but with an 8x8 grid of velocity- and pressure-sensitive mini pads.

I still think the Mk2 is by far the best controller they've ever made though and the Studio could have been and should have been so much better in a number of ways.

I think the price drop is in response to the new Akai units coming out. They need to make the Studio more competitive by comparison and the only way to do that is drop the price. With the new Akai units out they just can't sell the Studio for a grand anymore.

Until we get some sort of statement from NI I shall assume it is.

That was kind of my point though, as I don't have that issue with mine. I understand wanting to get official word though.

Yes, screens and the form factor was what I meant by "Studio-esque". I don't think any future Maschine controllers should be without a screen, even if just displays like on the S-series keyboards. Even one of those type of display would have done wonders for the current Jam.

I think the jam is more like a mid-range level product, similar to how the mpc touch is for the live and x. It took Akai 3 years to make the X... so whatever new hardware N.I is coming out with is already in process, I kind of forgot that the Maschine Studio came out in late 2013, it's a pretty nice looking controller for something that is nearly 4 years old.

I have no doubt that designs and prototypes, maybe even user testing are already in motion for the next controller. Personally, I don't think it's necessary for a while or until more software improvements are made and the usefulness of the current controllers is closer to being exhausted, but that's from a user perspective, not a company, money-making perspective.

However, I don't see Jam as mid-level or similar to MPC Touch at all. It's much more entry-level and more like an APC40 or something.

Yes and in a way, Jam is a bit of a prototype for NI....they are testing the appeal of an 8x8 matrix within the Maschine environment, and given the relative success of it, a "Pro" version with screens and more bells and whistles is something NI should work on, if they are not doing that already. I would be personally interested in that offering, assuming that they do carry thru with the sequencer improvements first.

Agreed. I don't really know how much the studio design can be improved upon using a 4x4 grid.. I suppose a touch screen could validate a new controller, but I'd rather have an 8x8 grid and a higher res screen if all things are equal.

Has the JAM been considered a success? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I really don't know and I'm curious. What are you basing this off of?

I said "relative" success ;). It's certainly not a failure. I think users on this board who bought it seem to be fairly happy with it, and in general, the industry press has been pretty benevolent towards it.

:D Considering whether something is a success or failure by the company isn't relative though. Companies don't base successes of what the press says, or what a minority of boards users say ( btw I would say while there are some board users who say that they have been happy, some have not, and some have not been happy about JAM being released at all. I wouldn't argue that this forum is a good indicator of JAM's success or failure... especially considering most users don't even post on this forum.)

What matters really is how well a product sells, not forums or what the press says. How many products have we seen get loads of praise and then stop being made because they don't sell well? Only NI knows how well or how poorly it has done (because they have objective numbers they need to meet for it to be considered successful) unless some concrete numbers are put up. I think we may have a better indication of how well NI thinks JAM has performed with the new hardware, if it has some of JAMS features (like the 8x8 grid) and if they continue to make more iterations of the JAM.
