Hello everyone. I have a Maschine MKii and I absolutely love it! The work-flow is amazing and I've been using it for 90% of my music production. Haven't really touched Live and Push in awhile.

So, my question is for the Maschine Studio owners out there. Is it worth the upgrade?
I've done a ton of research on it and I know what it's all about.(features, upgrades, etc.)

So, how are you liking it? Does it really make that much of a difference in practice? I mean, $1000 is a lot of $$$ to pay for some screens and a level meter and some function buttons.

I figure I can sell my MKii to get some of the cash back but I just really want to know how you guys are feeling this thing.

    Thanks for your input.

I love mine. if you are on maschine for long hours and mostly staying in one place (its large and requires a wall wart) then it may be worth it to you. if you are on the go and already are getting along well with MKII then no REAL need to upgrade. its just a more luxurious experience.

It's more of a what about tomorrow position.
Getting a Studio if you can afford it is something many users of the smaller units have to consider.
If Maschine software is to progress it has to make more use of the abilities of the Studio, which in turn will affect the usefulness of both Maschine and Mikro.

There is still a lot of potential to be derived from the Studio, but they can't let the smaller units anchor it and prevent it from reaching that level.

Vey valid point Mr.Ghost......... The studio is a fantastic piece of kit and has the potential to evolve into basically a DAW if NI go down that road Like anything new it takes a bit of getting used to....... But workflow wise it's great, as Flux says it is a luxurious experience to use...... I would highly recommend anyone considering it to just get it, you will not be dissapointed......

I think I'm gonna get the studio. Since I already own the mkii and the 2.0 software, will I be able to de register my original software so I can sell my old mkii with the software. ??

Coming from a MK1 owner, I would update to mkII not the studio, even if money wasn't an issue but thats because the portability is key imo, but if you have a console, rack and ADCs in one location, go for the studio so you can set it up and have that beast centrepiece as your creative tool, mk 2 would look like a joke in a real studio.

I guess if its time to graduate get the studio, but keep ur mkII for mobile and for using it with other programs midi mapped

I did the same thing; I still have my Mk2, but the Studio is a definite upgrade, although it is not necessary (at present).....
NI did great by making Maschine 2 backwards compatible, and one can do everything with the Mk2; it is just not QUITE so much fun....
And I still use the mouse for some things (the LCD's aren't anywhere NEAR as big as my 24" monitor...:)

But the browsing on the Studio is great - they should add that functionality to Maschine 2.5 or sometime anyway....

And I'm not even a producer or a DJ...... just another archaic stringed instrument player trying desperately to figure out getting struck by the EDM freight train.....

    ^This +1000....

Folks might not like it but the they should have developed 2.0 software, or whatever they wanted to call it, from the ground up strictly towards the Studio. They could have kept 1.8.x, 1.9.x for the MK1/2/mikro units.

As a developer trying to keep things backwards compatible is a nightmare and at some point you have to move forward and cut support. That's the nature of the beast.

Part of the problems they are having now is surely trying to code updates that fit all 4 models.

this isn't true at all. Maschine is just a midi controller. you guys are talking like they need to make 3 different softwares for 3 different controllers and are trying to fit those 3 different softwares into one piece of software and are having a hard time, it's simply not true to the 100000th degree. they only need to code one piece of software and just make 3 IDs scripts available to it. I'm serious you guys have it absolutely backwards. making maschine software compatible with 3 maschine controllers doesn't make any difference to making maschine for just one controller, this is not making 3 different softwares compatible with each other this is making 3 not even that different midi controllers compatible with one piece of software.

Well said hamburger, it just isn't true that it would be difficult to support the range of maschine controllers.

I can tell you from experience that supporting different controllers does factor into the development time and there can be issues that only show on specific controllers and not others. Also, the workflow on other controllers do affect how it is implemented on another to a small degree. Regardless, I do not think they need to make separate software for each. Also, there is plenty room for the Studio to grow with the software along with the MK2 as well.

Oh yeah, forgot to give a +1 on the Studio. If you are on the fence and can afford it, just go ahead and get what you really want instead of settling. If you are into getting the most out of the hardware workflow it won't disappoint.

i start to like my maschine studio
my computer has never been that far away.
unfortunately it's pretty big, a good reason not to sell your mk1/2 and perform with it

I have had the MK2 and just copped the studio about a month ago IMO the studio is definitely worth getting it was like night and day! The fun factor for me increased exponentially! I can understand hat the cost has turned some heads but trust once you play with it you wont go back to another! Yes the update for the MK2 is 99.00 but unless you have it already save some dough and go PRO! (the MK2 is dope but the Studio is it's BIGGER BADDER BROTHER(well until the next one comes out)...

I love Maschine and of course I would love nothing more than to own the studio. It's clearly an amazing piece of gear. It's just that I have so many controllers and it's hard to justify dropping a G on one. I wish so badly that Maschine would evolve into the DAW it seems to want to be. If I could do EVERYTHING in Maschine it would be so amazing.
Anyway. I'll prob end up getting it. Thanks for the input guys.

if you want a fancy controller then get the studio controller. if you're interested in improving your music production then spend your money elsewhere because the studio controller is not going to make music any better than your mk2 controller. i don't believe that the level meters and extra function buttons are worth $900.
