isn't that what typically happens from our experience? older users get flaked out on..
left in the dust, thrown out with the garbage, their investment carries no weight etc etc.

what happens when they put out Studio MKII with 3 screens and they drop support for the original piece and its older sibling cost $2,000 instead of $1,000?

Does everyone have to throw theirs in the garbage and run out to buy a new one?
Thats obviously the game here but how many will play it and for how long?

thats the thing everyone wants it to be completely a standalone DAW thing but don't you think NI wants to have a longer future with maschine meaning they have to hold back and develop it more slowly, they need to release a couple more new Mikro's, MK2's and Studios before they can drop the big bomb on ya and make you pay for that too.. the new software will obviously come with a "bigger badder" kontrlR

but ya still will probably end up getting one eventually I mean why not ...

I gotta disagree with that...... It's not a fancy controller...... It's a FANTASTIC controller! :) Improving production Yes it most Definately does..... It's not just the level meters etc The bigger screens are excellent and a lot more easier to see what's going on, the jog wheel makes things far easier too...... It's an absolute joy to work with once you get your head around it...... :)

Go to shop of much techno...... Point at Maschine Studio....... Jump up and down shouting "Me want! Me have!" Take out bundle of cash..... Tell salesperson you would like discount, or a set of headphones or cables etc...... Refuse to leave shop of noise until you recieve discount or freebies....... Also mention you are in a hurry as you need to go see your parole officer regarding "the fire" and hey presto you have Studio..... (It worked for me) :) Buy it! Buy it now! :)

what i'm trying to say is investments in instruments, expansion packs, fx, mastering tools, music lessons, etc... those things will make a noticeable difference to a music production. nobody is going to hear if a track was made with bigger screens or jog wheel.

i'm also putting much consideration on $$$ because it sounds like the OP is trying to make a cost conscious decision. if the OP would have said "money is not really an issue" then i would say go for the studio controller. but if money is limited i think it's best to try and get the most bang for the buck.

on the other hand... if the OP is already satisfied with their music production output then i say go for it, because it is a fantastic controller.

Well, I dunno. For most of my life, I 've been really happy with the expressive power of my Flamenco guitar, even all by itself. I only got into Maschine because the market for Flamenco is pretty limited (today, outside of gypsies in Spain, mostly applies to outsiders with psychological issues..:).

That said, I did feel that I might be able to make a positive contribution to humanity in other areas - so I upgraded to Studio with the idea that I might be able to create background sound design for animated porno films.....

Problem is, I found that most of the best work had already been done.....

(Actually, my original calling in life was to be an international playboy, but many are called and few are chosen.....)

Ah but you see workflow is much improved....... Therfore resulting in a more tuned in state of mind therefor improving the operators operating capabilities therefor producing better beats! Car analogy: Old car...... New car...... Which car? :) The enjoyment factor goes a long way to improving musical input...... It's a bit like the right tool for the right job....... And back to the jog wheel every time you turn it you start running on the spot in an extremely stupid fashion..... Thus rendering the Studio as an extremely powerful fitness aid........ Have you used one? If not get some trainers and a headband and go down to your local dealer and prepare to "jog" :)

The Maschine Studio just feels right to work with. Since you mostly work with Maschine then I definitely think it's worth it. Everything just seems more intuitive and more fun. It feels good just looking at because of how nice the hardware is. Ha. I love mine. I don't think anyone really regrets getting it.

I use Machine Studio in FL Studio 64bit as a plugin... I love not having to open the VST and I just do everything direct on the studio controller... NI just need to find a way so we can rename and set colors of the pads on the controllers also then we could forget that is a software driven unit.

for the record i really like the studio controller. the only minor complaint that i have is that it is not usb powered like the previous models. i really enjoy the freedom of working without being plugged into a wall. other than that i think NI did a superb job.

my understanding is that USB spec. allows a device to draw only, up too, 500ma of current. This also depends on the draw of other devices so I think it makes perfect sense that the Studio is not bus powered. Typical LEDs draw 20+ma of current for each color...although I think they are being PWMed.

Any way I agree it is nice to forget about not forgetting the powerblock. ;)

a rechargeable battery that is only half as good as in iPad battery could power the unit for a very long time.

I can see the battery running out on peeps at the wrong time while recording that once in a life performance or even on stage. Nah, NI did it right. No need to hassle with batteries or introduce another potential support issue etc. I think they should have made the power supply more like a laptop style instead of the wall wart and a little longer.

well there would probably be a battery meter. but like i said i am really nit picking. the controller is great as-is. but if NI wanted to keep the portability of it intact they could have.

That's true that people won't be able to notice if you're using the mk2 or the studio to make music. I do think that the experience you have making music can affect your music in ways. If you have a better time making music it could be different. Emotion and workflow are huge factors in music production in my opinion. It really comes down to if you can afford it. And people, you aren't paying $1000 just for the screens, jog wheel, and level section. You're buying the whole controller. They don't just magically as it to your mk2. Ha.
