Greetings: In search of using Maschine with other MIDI Controllers I was able to locate a 10 year old, closed thread from 2011 hence this updated request.

After purchasing KOMPLETE Ultimate 13 today, I noted quite a few downloads get loaded with Maschine such as Indigo Dust, Halycon, Lilac and many others. Can any of the aforementioned downloads be used with Maschine and a non NI keyboard/controller such as Arturia? Ultimately I am hoping to be able to download Maschine, MIDI link to a Roland or Arturia Keyboard/Controller and be able to use the Native Software software products mentioned. Lastly, I'm unsure as to where to acquire the Maschine s/w though I suspect perhaps it's only included with NI hardware or can it be downloaded as a solo install?

Any advice would be most appreciated..thanks.

You can only get the Maschine software if you have a Maschine controller. You can use the content from the Maschine expansions using Komplete Kontrol software which you can download for free(it will work with 3rd party MIDI controllers). There are also Battery versions of the Maschine kits.

Excellent thanks this helps quite a bit. Might you know where I can find the Drum Map used by the kits for Maschine? Apparently I can match these with another MIDI controller with 16 pads once I've this info. I'm told this would do the trick vs. purchasing additional hardware.

What do you mean by a Drum Map? Is this for a specific MIDI controller or DAW? The Maschine kits start at C1 and go up to D#2 in Battery. If your pads are transmitting note on messages in this range, it should work.

Hmmm, my Maschine Expansion Kits start usually with C3 at Pad 1 for the Kick drum followed by Snare on Pad 2. Ableton's Drumracks start with C1. So a sort of MIDI Mapper might sometimes be necessary.
Maybe I'm just missing an obvious and simple solution without a MIDI Mapper because at the moment I've have no Maschine on my office notebook. => Can we change the root note of Pad 1 without negative effects on Expansion's drum kits?
IMHO Battery and Superdrummer 3 are one of the rare apps, where you can allocate every sound to any note without using a MIDI Mapper.

I've an Arturia MKII Keylab 61 keyboard with a MIDI controller which includes Pitch Wheel and Modulator along with other various knobs and sliders.
The Keylab 61's has 16 pads of which I'm trying to map to the Native Instruments Drum Kits / Expansions. I do not own a Maschine product thus attempting to remap the same 16 pads you'd find on Mikro 3. I've all of the steps necessary except the original mapping structure that Maschine uses. Once I have this info (Deep Thumb is on the right track), I can then program the Keylab MK II to match with drums kits and expansions. It appears Deep Thumb's note about mapping is in the right direction. Perhaps there's no consistent mapping when using Maschine and any of the Native Hardware? Just a guess. Thanks for the assistance and replies.

    Hi Ant G.
My rough (!) impression of a kind of "standard" Maschine Pad layout is as follows:

Pad 1: Kick 1, Pad 2: Snare, Pad 3: HiHat 1, Pad 4: HiHat 2 (different articulation) or Crash
Pad 5: Kick 2, Pad 6: Snare (different articulaton, e.g. Rim Shot), Pad 7: HiHat 3, Pad 8: HiHat 4 or Clap ...
Pad 9 to 11: Toms, Pad 12: Floor Tom or Vocals
Pad 13 to 16: Crash, Splash, Ride etc. or special sounds e.g. synths

Of course many deviations are possible - especially for Pad 9 to 16.
My workflow: I try to implement a similar "Maschine like" pattern for every drum layout independent of the actual SW tool I use.

Thanks, I like the logic in your layout and will likely go that route.
Arturia Hardware Support just replied and stated inn response to a prior email with MIDI Mapping: "So indeed you can apply the instructions I sent to Battery, But Battery even has a MIDI Map Feature that it is even faster, you just click on a drum cell and then go to the Key Range settings and click on the MIDI Icon then press the PAD on your KeyLab MKII".
Seems like Battery is the ticket to pair up the 3rd party hardware and the expansions/drum kits.

Yes, Battery is relatively simple to use (RTFM though ;)) and powerful. You can link / stack sounds and allocate every note you want to that sounds.
