Suppose you've composed something with Maschine and you now want to play it back. Is it possible without the Maschine hardware? If so, what limitations are there? For example, do you still have access to all the various controls by using your mouse, or via VST automation? Or are there important things that absolutely require the hardware in order to do them?

You don't need to have the hardware hooked up to use the software.

You can still control all of the parameters, record automation, etc.

Clicking within the knob on something will simply adjust it, if you click and drag on the orange circle around it - it will record the automation if you are playing.

I have limited desk-space and tend to put my maschine away when not using it, but now and then I'll load up the software and noodle-about a bit.

I cant think of anything that you must use the hardware for, but there are a few things that can only be done in the software.

Ah, that's good to know; thanks. In particular, it seems to imply that if you use Maschine to create a track in a DAW such as Ableton Live, you don't need to have the hardware present in order to play back that track, so long as you don't actually need the hardware controls to adjust things that might be hard to manipulate with the mouse.

@shypht: there are actually a few things you can only do with the controller. like fast extending of patterns via the "double" button and controlling the metronome, for instance.

    Heres an odd one then.
With the Maschine software only my track sounded about 10 bpm to fast.

The bpm display was correct but the track was very fast. I compared it to the mastered version in iTunes (which played at the correct bpm) and it was around 10 bpm faster.

I plugged in the hardware and then the tempo was corrected.

All the time the bpm display was at 127 bpm. It didnt/ i didnt change it at all.

    Any thoughts on why?

That sure sounds like a bug. Have you reported it?
