Maschine Won't Record Massive Automation

I just purchased Massive not too long ago for Maschine and have yet to get it to record my knob tweaks. I can get all of the knobs assigned and working just fine but when i try to record any automation using the auto write button it doesn't record anything. I've tried recording it with the record button as well and nothing. I see that in some other programs there is a tab at the top to write the automation or in Ableton you can just add an audio filter and draw your automation, but how do i write it in Maschine? What am i missing?
    ---
i think i figured this out, can i not automate from an external controller? Is it true that i can only record automation from the macros on maschine and not an outside midi keyboard for example

I hope that is not the case! :( ****, even Garage Band can do that.

But I'm keen to find out the answer - as I am having the same problem with my Arturia plug-ins. :(

    Any help guys?

So if you have Maschine knobs assigned to a plugin param like cutoff say won't it record automation if you tweak the knob while playing the synth?

if you assign a Maschine Macro knob to a plugin Parameter, such as Cut-Off, you can record the movement of the Macro knob into Maschine as Automation, using the Maschine Controller.

i think the problem arises, if you use an external Controller and assign a knob to control a Macro knob in Maschine.

I see thanks - thought that didn't make sense. Maybe this is a difference between recording host automation (which I assume Maschine outputs like Kore) and midi cc (which is presumably what the external controller is outputting)?

yes, the external Controller would be outputting CCs to control Maschine's Macro's.

to be honest, i don't see the point in assigning external Controllers to control the Maschine Software, when the Maschine Controllers does it very well and writes it to Automation in a DAW, if this is required.

Well actually there is a serious issue for people now using the Mashine Mikro. And don't start telling me to investigate the product before buying it. I did that and stayed with the impression that Maschine MIkro can't record automation. But I couldn't imagine that an external controller could not write automation as well. This info was not obvious. And i think even if you use the normal Mashine which again can write automation again it is irrational not to give the opportunity to external control surfaces to write automation. There are so many freaking things you can do with a Lemur that normal controllers could never imagine.

In general I am completely thrilled with Maschine. It's the most intuitive hardware/software sampler/sequencer I've ever used. But the thing with the automation missing just make it half finished for Mascine Mikro users(and Mashine normal)
Will have to post this in the feature request thread.

    it doesnt record

you can how ever click on the outer ring of the assigned knob and drag it up and down for the values and when u press play it will record that

    How will it be addressed?
1)Will the macros controlled by external CC be able to write automation from the external controller?
2)Or will there be a different automation system where you can assign whichever parameter you like to a CC(maybe discriminated by channel info) and automate it from the external controller.

1 will be good and 2 will be just great.

I figured this out. I am a Maschine Mikro user as well and this problem drove me crazy at first. In order to record automation through and external midi (once you have your controls assigned) you must select the macro you want to control on the maschine hardware first. Once you've done this, you can either record automation on the maschine hardware or your external midi. You MUST have the macro selected on the Maschine hardware in order to record. Don't forget to have the "write" button selected on the software when going to record your automation. This worked for me and I was very relieved. Cheers!

Hey man, can you please explain this in a little more detail?? it is still only letting me only adjust the pitch knob and not the "outer ring" which is what I need to smoothly record automation...please help! This is driving me insane...thanks bruh!

Hey man, if you have to actually draw in the automation you can stretch the automation/velocity section up and make it huge so you can be very percise at drawing it in. I do this all the time for quick edits to do sweeps.

I totally agree that drawing the automation sucks, but once you make it big and zoom in you can make some nice curves by setting the grid to like 1/64 or 1/128.

I mean if you can't get ur knob working.....

Awesome...!! I also found that on the mikro, if you hold the shift button and press the knob it will adjust the automation...thanks for getting back at me!

Hey everyone, just got a maschine mikro mk2 love it. After reading the manual it is clear that "automation" cannot be recorded in Maschine, "modulation" can be recorded in Maschine by using the knob and holding shift. "Automation" comes from external midi sources. I was a little bummed for a second, but if you happen to also use ableton there is a very easy solution. load maschine into ableton, arm the maschine track in ableton, go over to maschine and map all your midi parameter you want to use. when your making your sweeps and adjustments simply record the midi track in ableton. when the midi track is played back through maschine boom the automation is played through just fine. this took me an hour to figure out, I hope i save you all some time and frustration.

In Logic X, if you go into Preferences > Automation, you can select Automation Quick Access > On.
If you have clicked on (and thus selected) a parameter you want to automate, you can then move the knob you want to assign on your Maschine controller. Then click done. The parameter should now be able to record automation by turning the knob.

Note that you have to have your Maschine in MIDI Controller mode, do this by holding Shift on it and clicking the Control button on the top left hand corner of it. On the track you are trying to automate, you must also have the automation set to Touch. I am using a Maschine Mk2 for this, so if you have something different the setup may change.

For easier setup, after clicking a parameter, press Command L, move the knob to learn it, then press Command L again to finish learning.

    Hope this was a help.
