Massive Triggering 'mDNSResponder' Process on Catalina - CPU Spiking

    Hi Everyone!

While investigating some serious overheating of my MBP, I have discovered that initiating any instance of Massive (either in standalone mode or from within Logic) triggers a process called 'mDNSResponder' on my machine that hogs around 45 - 60% of CPU usage, causing said overheating and the fans to run like crazy...and this is with only one or two tracks in Logic (see attached screenshot). When I delete the tracks containing Massive, the mDNSResponder process returns to 0.0% of CPU usage, the laptop starts to cool down and the fans switch off. No other NI products seem to be triggering this process.

According to Apple, mDNSResponder is a vital system process related to networking that should not be quit. I never have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on when using Logic but this process appears anyway. It's weird that something like Massive would trigger a process related to networking, but I was just wondering if anyone has come across this before and can shed any light on a possible resolution?

    Thanks a lot,
    Dave.

    Hi,

I have the same problem with Massive, Absynth and FM8. It seems just to happen if you don't have a network connection or if you have a network connection without Internet access. I try to look at the packets with Wireshark to see what is going on.

    Cheers,
    Johannes

    Hi,
it seems it tries to lookup configuration.native-instruments.com

The software its probably not handling the response that there is no answer correctly. Seems quite broken to me

It seems to help to put something like this in /etc/hosts

    127.0.0.1 configuration.native-instruments.com

Is it possible that native instruments doesn't intent to use the plugins offline anymore?
