    Hi all,

we have a new video online that shows some of the main features of Massive. I'd recommend watching it if you want to know exactly what Massive will do for you.

Note that it's fairly large sized (close to 100 MB), and you'll need QuickTime installed to play it.

I think native instruments needs to bring out a proper tutorial video or someone needs to make a tutorial for massive as the preset sounds are very average. I am still learning

I am still waiting for a proper tutorial for massive. Until it comes with some basic dance dnb garage presets, it is not really of any use unless you know your stuff. I am a little bit annoyed because I was going to buy virus for my powercore and decided to get massive. Virus comes with 4000 presets. Massive seems to be slowing me down in terms of creativity. What to do ?

    Hello there,

Thanks for you reply. I dont think paying more money for soundpacks is really what i want. I could do with a tutorial, a proper tutorial. But to be honest il probs try and sell it because native instruments are not really making the effort to give users the ability to release the great potential of their product in any way. I would however pay money for a decent tutorial.

    Kind regards.

You know I just started using Massive recently and the way I work is I look for a sound that is "close" to what I need from the "massive" :) list of included sounds and then tweak it to my satisfaction. While doing that, I learn more and more how it works.

Other times, I pull it up and just play with the settings. Again, the more time I spend on it, the better feel I have on how to work it.

I wonder if you shouldn't just dive in and start using it more. I know I was kind of afraid of it when I first used it but now I feel very comfortable jumping in and tweaking.)

Have been spending a lot of time (maybe too much) creating my own presets. Thats all about it. All I can say is how I would make a synth.

    1. Include lots of popular presets for different genres of music,
such as classic analogue, dnb, house, garage to help users get started.

    2. Make a proper tutorial and charge people money if i have to.

    3. Make sure people know how to use the synth (properly) and not just appreciate its great design.

Virus powercore has 4000 Fat presets, that access let their users download from their site (for free).

This is my last moany message, i hope someone out there is listening. Lets try and make this thing work. (very dramatic)

    Peace

Thanks for the video! We need more of this because massive is MASSIVE! It's a beautifull synth but I feel like I only know about 10% about it.....

there are some decent vids on youtube showing how to get good sounds out of massive.

presets are good but surely its better to learn about the actual way they are produced and make something better yourself.

then it could be your sound not the same one everybody else has

i have a very limited understanding of synthesis but i want to learn more and learn how to use massive at the same time.

present are boring in my opinion but can be and ok jump off point.

    Hi,

I'm back from a Massive holiday. I have had a lot of pain with massive; but now things are looking up. The thing you have to realize is that it does so much stuff and has so many features that it is easy to get lost in. Most of the presets made by NI and other companies do not reflect the true potentials of massive, the possibilites are infinite; just look at the amount of oscillator presets there are. I suggest creating a basic sound; so here is my attempt at a tutorial ---

    1. Open a sawtooth oscillator on Osc 1 and a sawtooth on Osc 2

    2. On Osc 2, detune by .05 - .20 into the minus. If you keep both oscillators at the same pitch all that will happen is the volume will get louder.

    3. Make sure the signal is going to Filter 1 by dragging the F1/F2 slider up on the oscillator panels.

    4. Now open up a lp4 on Filter 1 and click/drop Env 1 onto the Cutoff slot on Filter 1 and drag Env 1 up so the blue ring shows up (now modulating cutoff).

    5. This has now created a filter envelope. (one thing to note is that the release (Length) of the sound Env 4 will be affected by the release of the filter envelope Env 1.

    6. Now according to how high Filter 1's cutoff is set and the attack of Env 1 will affect how much bite the sound has.

    7. Also, you can switch on the Modulation Osc, set it to 7.00 on the pitch; switch the Filter FM to 1 (Filter 1). Turn the volume up on the FM of filter and it will modulate the low pass filter lp4 and create some interesting sounds.

    8. Also, the routing page allows you to place insert FX like sample and hold into different parts of the signal chain. (For instance if you put sample and hold on insert 1 and click ins 1 after filter 1 on the routing page; it will be placed at that point in the signal path.)

You can find a good and basic tutorial on fm synthesis here if you are interested http://www.sfu.ca/~truax/fmtut.html

    Hope this helps,

    Fhyio

I've created a couple videos for Massive. The latest is 15 min on YouTube ([ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cLj84L6_2g"]YouTube- ‪Quik-E 004 - Let's Make a Tempo Sync'd Pad in Massive!"‬‎[/ame]) or the full 30 min on my site (http://www.pluginguru.com) that goes thru the process of making a tempo sync'd motion synth pad. Lots of tips along that way that might help some of you out.

I also sell patches @ www.pluginguru.com for Massive, FM8 and Stylus RMX.

    Cheers!

    Massive tut

    Hey all,

I made a tut for Massive, that includes FREE patches as a starting points. It shows you how to make a nice dubstep/drum n bass bass lead.

    Hope you like it:
