    Hi,
I am wanting to try out the Massive X demo before I decide whether I want to purchase Massive X or not.

I have tried multiple VST hosts and they all crash as soon as I try to play anything after editing the waveform.

I even installed Cakewalk and it crashed in the same exact way.

I am using the onscreen keyboard in all cases.

What is going on? Is this a known issue?

How am I supposed to test using the demo if it crashes as soon as I try to play notes after editing the waveform?

    System specs:
    Windows 10
    CPU - Intel Xeon E1660 V3
    32GB DDR4-3200
Drive installed on - 512GB nVME SSD
    Video - Nvidia RTX 2080
Sound card - Creative Labs Sound Blaster ZxR

What do you mean when you say that you "edit the waveform"? Do you morph to another waveform in the wavetable? Do you change the wavetable?

Also, do other Native Instruments plugins work on your computer, or do they crash as well?

Yes, when I morph to another waveform in the wavetable.

In Cakewalk it crashes a few seconds after morphing to another waveform. I don't even have to play anything.

I did hear back from Cantabile support and here is what they said:
"Thanks for sending through this crash report. I've investigated the issue, and it looks like an issue in Massive itself. Please make sure you've got all the latest updates for it installed and let me know if the problem persists."

The Massive X demo is version 1.3.1.213.

I can't really do anything to install a newer version is there since I haven't purchased it yet, correct?

I'm guessing that Native Instruments didn't actually do any testing on the demo version before posting it as it crashes no matter what VST host is used.

Found out how to make it work. Native Access has to be installed or Massive X will crash. After I installed Native Access and then loaded up Massive X with Cakewalk, it did some scans and actually changed the initial defaults in the Massive X demo.

I found another thread where another person was having issues with Massive X crashing and they noted that they installed Native Access.

NI really should have this noted on the download page for the demo instead of just leaving users to flail about trying a bunch of different stuff before finally figuring out what the problem is.

I'm surprised you were even able to run Massive X at all... Native Access is there to authorize the plugins, so, obviously, it has to be installed.

You're totally right, sorry for the bad experience. The demo is being re-worked so it won't need Native Access at all.

Today, 16/07/2021 the demo still crashing, at least with cakewalk. the synth will not even load sometimes, and if it does, a few seconds later crash the whole thing. I have other vst plugins and have no problems. It is just with Massive, also affecting my Audient id4 interface producing funny noise.

Hey bx748, Have you tried to install Native Access ? Have you tried to reset the database as explained here ?

No, sorry, I didn't try that. Just wondering why with the rest of VSTs you dont need something like native access and resetting the database.
Anyway I was just trying the demo, and will definitively not buying it.

    Hi,

sorry for the late reply and thank you for getting in touch and bringing this problem to our attention.
This is indeed a known issue and will be fixed with the next update of Massive X.

In the meantime the workaround that was already posted is to install Native Access to get the demo version of Massive X to work properly.
This is unfortunate and not the way the demos for our other products work. In general the demo versions of our products do not require Native Access and after the next update Massive X will behave in the same way.

    Cheers,
    Eddie
