I was a little riddled by the interface at first, but now that I gave this thing several hours I can safely say that it is very intuitive. I think the biggest trouble come from the fact that I expected it to behave exactly as the old massive and that there is no manual yet. To be honest, I kind of enjoyed the experience of having to figure everything out on my own.

you can right click on the module in the routing to disable it, but double sided sword: easy to forget.

The no stand alone really screwed me up. I was looking for it everywhere and finally gave up and used it from within Maschine. (I still have to go through those new NI support links on X).

I guess you don't need the standalone. But I think given that the old Massive has a standalone, there was a natural assumption that X would be same,

I've found the bit in the modulation strip where you can mute the modulation by right-clicking, but the problem is it mutes all the modulations from that modulation source and I only want to mute a single modulation destination. The most elegant solution would to be a right click option at the destination slot which isn't there.

edit- found out it's double click to disable modulation which I'd know if there was a manual.

I think I understood most of the software. Does anyone else had problem to understand noise and modulators?
    • noises don't produce any sound, I tried in many ways and I also isolated preset's noises in the routing
    • Router'r modulators are not effecting anything: I connected a modulator to the FM and to a filter

you can do it from the oscillator, you can deselect "PM1", PM2" or "Aux"

No. I meant if I drag an assignment from a modulation source, but I've found it's double click to mute it.

strange, if I double click a module it has a different consequence: it disconnect all the connections to it

No. I'm not talking about the module in the routing window. I'm talking about when you drag the crosshairs from the modulation strip in the middle of the screen to a modulation slot. If you double click on the slot, the modulation is extended to the full range. If you double click again, the modulation to that slot is disabled, but the modulation routing isn't lost.

I really need an option which would be best-placed in the right click menu in the modulation slot to mute the modulation as sometimes I'll need to disable the modulation temporarily so that I can understand what it's doing to the sound and then re-enable it without having to find the sweet spot again. That option doesn't seem to be there.

Sorry for misunderstanding, Modulation is in the Routing as well and I was struggling on it.
I think I understood what you mean: the old massive has the opportunity to mute modulation with right click, in Massive X there is only "delete".
But you can lower the level of the modulation from the modulation field

My understanding from an ADSR YT video is that this is just an initial release of the product to abide by the June 2019 release date promise. There should be a long line of ever evolving updates to MX.

are you afraid of incompatibility between old presets and new upgrades?

Why? I have been using Maschine for a while. I feel I have gotten my moneys worth and more from Maschine and its expansion. Its a tool that has been pretty reliable and helped a lot more than other compositional tools I have used in the past.

Note1: I am not a EDM or DJ guy so can’t really comment or compare to what other advanced tools and software those guys use.

Note2: I did not keep flipping around from tool to tool. I just basically stuck with Maschine and forced my brain to plow through getting used and accustomed to using the workflow. In my case I went from a old BOSS DR-550 MK2 to maschine. A huge jump in functionality and features. ;-)

Try assigning an exciter envelope or LFO to one of the mods in the audio routing section, and then patching it to the comb filter to get an idea of how this works : – )

I did it, but nothing relevant happened. Are "Mod1" and "Mod2" relative to the modulator below the oscillators?

Maschine is a good product but the most awaited updates never come.

I think the UX is one of the best that NI have produced, if not one of the best UX I've encountered in a soft synth. As with Maschine, it's fast, fun and intuitive. Whilst it obviously draws some inspiration from the world of modular and is thus skeuomorphic, it is unashamedly a soft synth in its workflow and makes very good use of the interface and screen estate of a computer. I'm really digging the re-sizeable UI, I use a high-end 34" ultrawide monitor, NI plugins have been problematic on it at times as they look really small due to the pixel density. Too many soft synths are trying to emulate an analog workflow, and whilst the sound of analog can be a desirable thing, an analog style workflow is inappropriate on a computer IMO, so it's nice to see NI taking complete advantage of what displays can now do in terms of information density.

The marketing materials state it as a "rebirth" of Massive for another decade; expect it to grow, as most newborn things have a tendency to do.

I love it; is it comparable to the original Massive in all areas yet? Of course not, but Massive X can run alongside Massive. Best of both worlds. The Performer and Tracker are a ton of fun in X.

Hard to understand how a synth gets delayed four months and still doesn't have a manual upon release. Did they really change that much in the last couple weeks? I can't recall another product released without a manual.
