In addition to the hotcue points we're all familiar with, Pioneer/Rekordbox also have "Memory" points that can also be saved onto your tracks.

What's the difference between a traditional hotcue point and a "memory" point?
"Memory" points cannot play/launch the track. Most pioneer players/controllers have 2 buttons (< and >) to jump between "memory points" which are visible in the waveform (Triangle symbol). You can also add text to the memory but is only visible through the software. Users can store up to 10 "memory" points per track.

What's the point of having a "memory point" if there's already 8 hotcues available?
"Memory" points can serve as a reference point, like different starting points, mixout points, marking phrases with irregular structure, and so on. Hotcues that would have been used for these reference points can be offloaded by using the "memory" point. In other words, you can focus on hotcue'ing loops, riffs, or other musical elements while using the "memory" points to store the reference points.

    Final words:

Traktor is known for the control you can achieve with properly prepared tracks and/or gear. Adding a "memory" point like system into Traktor will allow users to mix more creatively by allowing them to focus on hotcue'ing the musical elements like loops, riffs, one-shots. In the world of digital format, endless music, and vast libraries, reference points are our map for mixing tracks tightly for the energy or loosely when it needs to breathe. I don't know the restrictions/legalities of using the same term "memory point" or "memory cue", but if it is an issue, you can call them "moments", "moment marker", or "moment cue".

    Other thoughts regarding "Memory" points:
    • Like the "Beats to Cue", you can have "Beats to Memory" for the transport info
    • Since the normal hotcue is triangle shape in the waveform, memory points can be marked with a "V" and assigned different colors by the user
    • Have a setting to continue playing or stop track when jumping between memory points while the track is playing. (Pioneer stops the track if it's playing)

Hi, jcoquito is an interesting topic. I had a DDJ 800 and I know the rekordbox well. I also thought about it, I think it would be nice to have a few tools to mark on the tracks themselves any parameters of the desired for DJs, such as the energy level inside the track or the dynamics or something else and see it on the screen. I have tried to use memory cues, for issuing energy in the track and it worked well. If we talk about normal use, it is enough convenient to use hot cues, just there should be 16 of them, so that there is enough for any situation

I wrote about this in one of the posts and suggest making a new mode "energy level", I think it looks like what you think

I really like your idea of Advanced Skip function and a 3rd hotcue playback mode. If hotcues did offer your suggested features, then 16 hotcues sounds fantastic; however, I would still prefer only having 8 hotcues. Imagine adding 8 additional hotcue buttons to the existing UI, the screen will start to look crowded. Now you're probably more disciplined than me when it comes to setting your cue points with the appropriate cue type. Knowing me, I'll definitely forget to go back and change the cue types every now and again. With that said, I'll have a hotcue clutter to confuse me lol. Now with "memory points", it's just a dedicated reference mark - you don't have to set a "type", you can change the color if you want, but that's it. To me, having them separated keeps things simple. Instead of pressing hotcue and then changing the cue type, I only have to press "Set Memory Point". Theoretically, you could actively set hotcues and memory points simultaneously, making track preparations quicker (but you can also have a function for "set hotcue - reference cue type" too). Anyways, I'm not against 16 hotcues with advanced features, but I'd imagine it'll require a number of development sprints before those features can be made available and I cannot see NI doing this anytime soon (not trying to bash NI). The quality of the code will determine how quickly and easily they can alter/improve an existing function, so maybe it can be done quickly.

I often used 10-12 cues in the rekordbox, it looked normal in the deck. I wouldn't say it looked crowded. I like to use dots to completely control the track, and I understand what you mean when you say that it's easy to get confused. To avoid confusion, we need to come up with a system of notation that doesn't intersect with each other. You know, I was just thinking, this can be implemented using symbols

For example, we can use colors and captions at our discretion, as usual

and for each type of cue, we can use different white icons (white, so that they do not interfere with the colors of hot cues):
    Hot cues-empty button
    Hot loops-loop icon
    Skip mode-skip icon
Fade in,Fade out - raise and lower icon
Energy mode-this mode should be done on a separate pads tab,but displayed on the waveform of the track

I see it like that, how you?
