Sorry I couldn't embed it directly, I read something about not having certain posting rights until I hit 20 posts.

Anyways, I took on the challenge of trying to do some 4 deck mixing with some of my favorite metalcore/hardcore/metalic hardcore/whatever tracks that were all recorded with a live drummer preventing any sort of easy beat gridding from happening. Most of the track utilizes jumping around to different cue points in a drum machine like fashion.

    Tracks:

Converge "Jane Doe" off Jane Doe
Coalesce "Cowards.com" off 0:12 Revolution in Just Listening
Modern Life Is War "D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S." off Witness
Botch "Mondrian Was A Liar" We Are the Romans

Taking vocal screams as samples with some of the reverb effect has a very black metal quality. I'll have to explore this some more in the future.

I'm just getting started on using Traktor in this fashion, so any pointers or recommendations (although I did already read the sticky about non bpm synced tracks) are greatly appreciated!

Well, this is certainly something we don't see any day.

Reminded me less of metalcore though and more of a venetian snares track.

Don't know if that's good or bad though :D

For a mashup it's a bit too experimental for my taste but I like experimental stuff.

I suppose for a mashup I should have used a more accessible song. I know it would have my life a lot easier "playing" on top of something with a steady beat!

Turn down your levels on the master out. The sound was clipping bad! Also, I'd work on not over using the same cue points unless your gonna shape them with effects or something. It was a little too repetitive. Way to think outside the box though!

Thanks for your insight! My primary instrument is guitar, and I think I need to start thinking about the fundamental aspects of soloing or coming up with a riff and reapply those to DJing and controllerism. I'm still getting through the "ooh, buttons do stuff" phase and need to start making those buttons dynamically add something to the mix. Thanks again and I'll definitely take those points into consideration.
