you should have an Maschine Manual Addendum English.pdf do you have that?

also, you need to be more specific. are you using Maschine in a DAW to send MIDI Out to Kontakt? if so what DAW?

and why did the video not help?

    yeah this is it!
any chance to program a MIDI pattern with Maschine, then send it out to an external device (Access Virus TI2 i.e)?

How do we need to set up this stuff?

Just pick any Pad which hasn't got elements loaded into it already, press SHIFT + BROWSE on controller. The Right Hand screen shows: Input, Sample and MIDI Out. Select MIDI Out and press the LOAD soft button. Press BROWSE again to exit Browse mode. Note that you can select one of 16 MIDI channels for the pad.

To play the synth attached chromatically on the pads press SHIFT + PAD MODE. If prefer to use regular a MIDI controller keyboard for chromatic playback of tuned synth sounds.

If MIDI notes are still not reaching your external synth then check:
    1. You have configured the Routing page in the Audio MIDI Settings in Maschine so that the port is Enabled as a valid destination.
    2. Check the MIDI Receive channel of the external hardware synth matches the MIDI Channel setting for the Pad.

If MIDI notes are reaching your external synth (e.g. a MIDI Note activity indicator is flashing on the synth) and you have it attached directly to your Audio Interface's inputs and you still cannot hear the notes you are triggering:
    1. Ensure the direct hardware monitoring function is engaged (e.g. Audio Kontrol 1 - press the On button on the front panel in the monitoring section).
    2. If you have no Direct Monitoring function on your audio interface (e.g. Audio 8 DJ) then create use a spare Pad and press SHIFT+BROWSE and select "Input" as the type for the Pad - this will serve as a software-based monitoring solution.

Don't forget all the fun you can have sampling the parts you've sequenced on your external hardware synth using Maschine if you have it patched to your Audio Interfaces inputs! This is great for creating new riffs if you slice up loops you've sequenced.

The advice above is for non-virtual synths.
    ; )

For software synths it gets a little trickier depending on how and what you use to host them.

Unless you are running a audio interface with multiclient capable drivers (i.e. a audio interface with drivers which let more than one application communicate same device simultaneously), the cleanest way to sequence software synths from Maschine is to host both Maschine and the synth as plugins within a VST capable host sequencer.

Which Audio Interface do you use?
Are you running on PC or Mac?

Which VST host sequencer do you use?
I can help you with Cubase, Nuendo, Ableton Live and Kore 2.

Someone else might want to chime in to assist with other sequencers such as Logic, Sonar, and ProTools since I do not use those sequencers.

NOTE: The free Kore Player isn't suitable since it is designed to be a convenient preset library player rather than a means to create your own Kore structures from scratch.

I can get cubase to record the midi notes on a channel with maschine as the input - when i select a vst instrument as the output it plays the notes, what it does not do is trigger the notes live whilst recording, only during playback of cubase

Can anyone help? I want to be able to have the midi notes produced by maschine, trigger vst synths live

    any help much appreciated

Greetings. I am hoping someone can speak to Pro Tools. I tried to get this to work in PT HD 8 last night - I can select the channel on the pad, I can select Maschine in the MIDI settings in PT. I can't tell if its the right settings in PT and I don't get anything played into the virtual synth... Hopefully someone has cracked this nut?

    Thanks,
    Jared

I have the same problem. In Ableton Live it records the midi notes but doesn't play them at the same time. That's still an issue with the latest version. I hoped they would fix it. There should be a midi out mode where Maschine outputs every note played or triggered by the sequencer on the midi port. It can't be that compicated to integrate that.

Another Problem is that i can't get midi notes to output on the midi out port on maschine when i run it as a vst in ableton live.
When i run Maschine as standalone it works....maybe someone could help me with that.

Their (very unhelpful) video shows them triggering notes on NI Massive using Maschine in a DAW - it looks live, but I guess it is NOT.

i have to agree that the video is not nearly as good as the older videos.

the mentio of Massive is over in a flash, but it is in fact an example of using Kore as a host, where Maschine is sending MIDI to Massive. both are plugins inside Kore2.

and this can be done live.

see the screenshot taken from the video.

I have no problems sending midi notes to massive from maschine, if I use Maschine standalone. But how do I get this running when I host both Maschine and Massive as VSTs in Live 8.1?

Thanks for the tip sowari, - but I do not use Kore2

I noticed all three products in the video where it works are made by NI

What I really want to do is trigger notes of any vst synth like Omnisphere or Trilogy within Cubase (or Ableton) and trigger them live - I do not see the point of writing a pattern in Maschine to export it to Cubase - you might as well just write the pattern in Cubase to start with (much easier!)

I want to use Maschine as the main controller in my live set and having the functionality stated would make it absolutely unsurpassable - I am sure it is probably not that difficult to do as Maschine exports midi notes - I just cannot understand why it does it live within Kore but not other hosts

Would it work within the free Kore product available on the NI website or is it off to the shop for a full retail version?

Can you host vst synths in Kore that are not made by NI?

A never ending list of questions I am afraid, but I cannot be the only person who would like to work this way.

in Cubase and Ableton Live you can route MIDI from one plugin to another one. therefore you can send MIDI from Maschine to other plugins in Cubase and Ableton as well.

Maschine does not export MIDI notes, they are sent out - as shown in the video.

Kore does host non NI plugins yes. but this does not work with Kore Player.

You are not. although I love Maschine's sequencer, there are times when all i want to do it play the pads and record what I'm playing in Live 8. It should be as easy as it is when I load Battery as a VSTi and play it with my Akai LPD8. I just want to load Maschine as a plugin, look for a cool kit and make some clips in Ableton.

    Am I missing something?

I do love the export function in 1.1 though... At least this way I can just export my ideas in stand alone mode into a folder for later use in LIVE.

but you can load kits into Maschine but record the MIDI Clip in Ableton Live. please read the 1.1 update manual, maybe watch the 1.1 update video - which shows this being done in Pro Tools.

remember the Maschine Controller can act as a MIDI Pad for Maschine and other sounds.... just press Shift + Control to flip between the 2 modes.
