yes, but that way you can't hear what you record without using some sort of workaround.
It just isn't as easy as it should be even if the simple solution would be for NI to just implement a global MIDI out mode where every Note you play in Sequencer mode is sent out to the physical or virtual midi port!

to clarify, i am talking about Maschine as a Rompler, where MIDI is recorded in your DAW's Sequencer. this has got nothing to do with MIDI coming out of the Maschine Software, which is a completely different thing.

and of course you can hear when you trigger Maschine Software Sounds when you record a Sequence in your DAW, before, during and after the recording.

but then i am probably not understanding the scenario that you are describing, so maybe you could clarify what you are trying to do :)

    Hi Sowari

I open Cubase - select Maschine and another vst instrument in devices, create a midi channel, select Maschine as an input and the other vst as the output, select midi out on one of the pads on maschine and record enable on the midi channel in cubase.

When i hit the pad on maschine i can see the channel on cubase receives information but it does not pass it on to the output in real time - only by recording the midi pattern and upon playback - kind of defeats the object of live playing

If i change maschine to my midi keyboard on the input then it plays the notes - why does maschine not do this - seems simple enough - Am I missing something?

    @ Sowari | Yes... But...

I got it to work of course when I switch from Maschine to Controller mode. But that messes me up because I use a template in that mode for other things. So it forces me to take three steps.

My MPC never forced that on me. I could sequence in it, sync it up and send pad data...

I have to agree with vegetabubble... It should be a click of a button or a setting.

i am confused as to why you are doing all this?

please say what you are trying to record in Cubase?

are you recording MIDI in Maschine or Cubase, what sounds are you playing?

    Hi Sowari

I am being an absolute idiot - I had one of my settings wrong in the preferences in cubase - everything working great now

It was never about recording - it was about being able to use maschine as the controller for most of my live set, which I can now do - MASCHINE ROCKS!

many thanks for your help and patience

Having trouble getting MIDI out with Logic

Here's my setup: I have a Prophet 08, an Audio Kontrol 1, and a Maschine. The Prophet is set to listen to MIDI channel 1, and the Maschine's MIDI out is connected to the Prophet's MIDI in.

When I use Maschine in standalone mode I can set a pad to MIDI out (shift+browse, MIDI OUT) then put the Maschine in keyboard mode and play a tune on the pads. The Prophet makes noise and everything is great.

When I load Maschine as a plugin inside Logic 9, and do the exact same thing, I get no MIDI signal into the Prophet. I hooked it up to the MIDI outputs of both the AK1 and the Maschine but got nothing either way.

Any insights as to what I'm doing wrong?

To my knowledge, MIDI Output functionality is not supported for the AU plugin version of Maschine (limitation apparently within the AU standard). Since I'm not a plugin developer myself I can't explain the reasons why this isn't possible at current however let's hope it can happen in the future. If the current generation of Logic on OSX continued to support VST format then you'd be in luck but alas, Apple wanted to push their own plug-in agenda.

If you were using a VST capable host (e.g. Ableton Live or Cubase) it would be possible however there are a coulpe more steps involved in piping the MIDI data to the outside world when Maschine is running as a plugin since when Maschine is running as a plugin it doesn't have direct access to hardware Audio and MIDI ports since the host takes care access to such hardware ports.

Thanks, Jasefos! I'll experiment with Live and see if I get better results.
