I was wondering if there was an audio to midi converter - either in GT5 or another plugin that could make this work. I realize guitars are polyphonic, but one note at a time would work in many applications.

I'm not sure if its because I use an Avalon U5, but GT5 sounds good enough now to sell off my last remaining HW.

    Hi,

You could use something like that to convert one note, but you'll need this and a hexaphonic pickup (you could use also this one) to do real time polyphonic midi tracking.

Note that the second option is quite costly, though very versatile. You can split you neck in various zones, both along the frets and along the strings, in order to assign different Midi Channels. Therefore you can have a Bass sound on the top-upper half of the neck, a trumpet sound on the bottom upper half of the neck, and a piano sound for the bottom half of the neck. Here's a demo[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbFIpRNnqSI"]demo[/ame].

I'm in no way affiliated to any of those brands, but I do have ghost piezo system in my Strat to have something that's close to an acoustic sound.

    Cheers

Whooa. I wasn't aware of all these toys. I think I need to do some more homework on this. Thanks Rom.

There's not much offering in the realm of polyphonic guitar to midi conversion.

For the input, Roland provides a solution that is technically sound, but aesthetically very unpleasing. I much prefer Graphtec's Ghost system, which is really well integrated in the guitar. If you have a Variax guitar that you can use for part, I guess you could manage to use the Variax bridge as well, but it is not available as a spare part.

For the conversion, the products I know are from Axon (AX-50 and AX-100) and Roland (GR-20 and the likes).

Such a solution will be in a 600$-800$ price range.

    Cheers

You can get just the midi pickup separately, here's a Roland for a couple hundred bucks: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GK3/.

There are several different manufacturers that make these. As you said... "do your homework".
