    Hi,

I would like to buy a MIDI controller,I have read lot about controllers but i'm not able to choose which one.

Here is my top 3 list

    • Vestax VCI-100
    • Kontrol DJ
    • Xp10

VCI-100 seems to be the best, do you agree ?

As i know Numrack Total Controller; Hercules Dj Console and BCD2000 -3000 are inexpansive but looks like toys ...

This is for a home use , only for pleasure.

    Thanks for your advice.

    LMAO

I'm not sure if this was intentional, Freudian or just a Typo but its a great slip in spelling, well done ;-).
If this is only for home use then perhaps you should not write off the total controller too soon.
At least you did not include the BCD2000 or 3000 in your list of possibilities.

    lol just Typo :)

It's very hard to have an opinion about BCD 2000 and 3000 + Total Control.

Some people says that it's just a toy , other that it's wonderfull !

the VCI-100 seems to have good feedbacks but you are right may be this controller is too "pro" for me and expansive 500€ -> 550$

WRT the BCD controllers... don't waste your time there, but the Numrack Total Controller has some people that are quite happy with it.

    hi

i´m using vci 100 and i think i´ve not wasted any money. i used the bcd2k before for more than 5 months, but the internal audio interface was not that good. it was ok for a short period of time, but not longer. today i´m using the vci100 with NI audio kontrol 1 and i enjoy it very much. even if both parts combined seems like a big amount of money, its worth it!

actually i have the bcd2000 and configured well for my purposes. ok the wheels are not working in traktor but not so important.

i am ok with the bcd2000 now because you do a lot of things still by mouse.

if you do just mixing from one track to another, without that much effects, scratching etc. then the bcd2000 is enough, and it is cheap too.

There is no best MIDI controller. There is only what is good for you. For instance, I find jog wheel controllers totally unnecessary, and the tiny discs on all of them a sad interface. So all of the controllers you mentioned would fall lower on my personal "best" list than controllers like the FMDJ9303, the Bitstream 3X, the UC-33, and other similar devices. If I was hell bent on getting a dual jog controller, I would probably opt for the M-Audio Xponent, since it contains not only the traditional controls, but a mousepad and a built in audio interface.

I use a Faderfox, an X-Keys keyboard and a Kontrol-DJ in various combinations. Really, you should also consider what your style of playing is (jog-wheels or no jog-wheels) if you want to use an external mixer or the internal one, do you care about size or not, are 4 decks important, yaddayaddayadda.

Also, check the Wiki-Controller page which should be sort-of-up-to-date

Hey, guys, users of any midi-controllers - and, first of all, faderfox guys... I'm planning to become digital, and have a recent experience with my friend's Vestax VCI-100...

I was very surprised, because I was unbale to start tracks in my usual way like I'm used to on live CDJs (Pioneers).

When I start tracks, I push (and not release) orange CUE/PAUSE button, then, after I'm sure that's ok I'm pressing green CUE/PLAY and then release CUE/PAUSE. I can't release CUE/PAUSE earlier, it will stop play the track... But, I was in great surprise, that this method doesn't work on his Vestax VCI-100.

Doesn't that mean that MIDI technology can't send data for more than button / rotary / knob whatever simultaneosly, so only one button can be pressed / held at the time? Or I'm wrong, hopefully?

Because, I'm planning to have Faderfox DX2 for my CJ setup, and I wouldn't like to have it, if it will work in such way..

Does MIDI allow to send more than one signal at once, sorry for such lame question? :)

I use the AKAI MPD24 and the FADERFOX DJ1.
The AKAI looks like the M-Audio Trigger Finger. You have 5 Faders, 16 Buttons and 8 Knobs.
So you can also use a Sample Player with it. It´s a really good thing. And it´s build of good material, that it´s not a "toy".

Build your own, I tell ya, its the way to go :D

Its really easy, check out http://www.midibox.org.
I built one out of an old Denon 1800F controller. Its absolutely ideal as its laid out like a DJ control surface (cos it used to be one !) so its really intuitive to use; and it controls Traktor :D

Have a look at my thread here http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=9007.0 which describes my first outing with it and has some photos

    I've never looked back

PS. before building my own, I purchased a BCD2000 - what a pile of poop that was! That very soon found its way onto ebay !
