    hi!
yesterday i bought a numeric keypad..
i tried this one eg with the live beat sampler by kid sputnik from the user library.. (i replaced the 'sel_gate' buttons with normal buttons because i wanted to play the 'live beat sampler' with the numeric keypad)
the problem is that everything is fine whenever i use keys from the laptop keypad or also from my midi controller but with the external keypad i have problems..sometimes i can manage to place a button but the thing is the 'midi learn' function doesnt switch off automatically..
well i hope it isnt too confusing what i wrote..
    maybe someone can help...
    bye

it is a problem with the button module. if you select the first button and then select a second button whilst the first is still on (you keep your finger pressed on the key), the first button will stay on after you take your finger off the key. this called legato playing.

if you play on and off with individual key presses, it works.

yes, that is why i used the selective gates, buttons do not work well with MIDI control.

the keypad on my computer (a USB QWERTY 'board hooked to my laptop) doesnt seem to do anything, unfortunately, except the '0' key turns the audio on/off. the main letter and number row do send MIDI, though, Z row is MIDI 48+ whitekeys, A is the associated black keys, then Q is 60+, numbers are the black keys there (61+). you can use the tuning modukle (aux) to change these for the selected instrument, use the shift input (tghis is what is done for the sel keys, any 16 sequenctial macro in classic modular).

I recently discovered that it's only MIDI notes that cause that jamming button problem, Control change messages (which I can send from the pads on my kontrol 49) work fine. I'm aware that this info is probably useless to anyone who reads this but I still think it's worth noting.
Afraid not. You could however get a program to run in between your keypad and reaktor to translate your key presses to midi notes. I've heard alot of people swear by Bidule for this function, never used it myself though.

you can also try downloading the Max/MSP demo. it is 30 days, you can probably bang out the patch you need in that time, and then run it in the free max runtime enviornment. it requires a learning curve, but is similar to Reaktor, i know one of the tutorials covers recieving QWERTY key input, it will take any ASKII key and send out it's associated number, which you can then assign to MIDI out (maybe via CC's or something) and connect the programs via MIDI Yoke.
