MIDI output notes from chords/arp in Pro Tools?

With the new komplete kontrol 1.1 update, does anyone know how to get MIDI output of the individual notes from the chord/arp functions on the komplete kontrol keyboard within Pro Tools?

 

make sure you install the Firmware Update for your Keyboard as well



in an instance of Komplete Kontrol that uses the Arp, the MIDI Notes are being sent out - you just need to instruct Pro Tools to receive them.

in this example Komplete Kontrol is Instrument 1 - nothing is loaded but i am using the Scale and Arp features.

Instrument 2 is Arturia's Oberheim SEM.

the MIDI Input for the Oberheim is set to Komplete Kontrol Channel-1

Don't think I've explained what I'm after.

I want it to so that, in the MIDI/clips regions in Pro Tools, I can see the individual notes that are generated from the arp/chords. Instead of just the one note pressed to activate the arp/chord.

you can record on a MIDI Channel and route the MIDI to Komplete Kontrol.

if you arm both the MIDI Channel and Komplete Kontrol, you will get the single notes on the MIDI Track and the full notes on the KOmplete Kontrol track.

this is the MIDI Track which has the output routed to KOmplete Kontrol



here is the Komplete Kontrol track which is only receiving MIDI from the MIDI Track



and this is the result after recording:

Thanks again for your help. I did as you said. I could control all parameters of KK instrument but it did not print individual MIDI notes as you managed to. Any idea what I might have done wrong?

 

it's working for me:

i have uploaded my Pro Tools file.

i had the MIDI 1 track highlighted.

Thanks sowari. Got this working now.

Like a complete IDIOT, when I was playing back the recorded arp midi, I wasn't turning off the arp function on my keyboard. Silly me! >_<

 

Ok, just messing around with it and I seem to have run into another problem. When generating notes from the arp function, I'm creating extra midi 'x' notes that is preventing arp playback. Any suggestions?

 

no i don't have any suggestions - could you contact tech support.

I'm on MAC. Wish it would just generate MIDI on the actual kontrol track :'(

 

i am also on a Mac - OS 10.8.5.

could you upload a simple version of your project just with Komplete Kontrol and the MIDI Track for me to have a look at.

Sure thing. I've left a basic MIDI pattern within the session. That's what I'm getting when I use the MIDI track and Komplete.

 

but with this you are send single notes to Komplete Kontrol and have the Arp on in KK - that only produced single notes.

if you want to hear some arpeggiated stuff you need to play a chord on the MIDI Track, not single motes.

btw, i am confuse by Console 1 and Virtual 12?

I was playing single notes just as an example of what happens when the arpeggiated data that is generated also contains those midi 'x' notes.

Console 1 is the softube controller/plugin i use to mix with. Virtual 1-2 are outputs to the UAD console I use for processing.

Here's an example of single notes played on the midi track and chords generated on the komplete keyboard. If you look at the midi region of the chords generated, shorten the notes and you'll see the 'x' notes that are being generated. What I think is happening for some reason is the midi is being generated twice: 1) the actual notes that make up the chord 2) the 'x' midi notes are the onset of these notes.

Obviously when you try to play them back it just doesn't happen :S
