    The point here is that it's not a simple task. It's conceptually simple, but actually fairly complex.
    The example from digit8 is something that can be done in Reaktor much more easily using built-in primary level MIDI features. This is as you would expect because monophonic keyboard input is a common feature.
    Your strummer application is not a commonly needed feature, so I don't understand why you would expect it's implementation to be trivially easy using built-in features.
    Sample accurate MIDI modules? Reaktor is a software platform at the mercy of operating system scheduling, 3rd party audio drivers, and 3rd party USB drivers for MIDI input. In this context it would be foolhardy to make any kind of promises about timing accuracy.
    Different strokes I suppose. I've worked in various languages in the past - mostly c++ and assembly, and for me, Reaktor was an extremely easy learning curve - a couple of evenings reading the core manual, then straight in developing stuff. I did have some previous experience with sync modular, but I found that very easy as well - maybe it's just not for you.
