MIDI Tracks in Ableton ALWAYS auto-armed

    Hello
Since buying a Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2, whenever I used Ableton, the MIDI tracks are ALWAYS auto-enabled so when I go to record automation on the MIDI tracks, it records over the MIDI data. The record enable icon has a littlle quaver note icon on it which must be part on it right? Audio tracks are absolutely fine but I can't seem to take it off MIDI tracks. I've upload a screenshot to highlight the difference between the channels over the Record Enable buttons. Please if anyone knows how to turn this off 'Auto-Record' so I can record automation, I'd really appreciate that.

It cannot be disabled if you are selecting a track with the keyboard, it will arm the track so you can play the loaded instrument otherwise when you select a track it will not allow you to play it without then arming it.

You would need to click it with the mouse to toggle it off if you need to record automation.

Thanks for the reply! Which bit do you mean with the mouse to toggle it off if I need to record automation? It is either pale red or more red? but either way if always records and removes the MIDI data when I'm recording automation in

Hello, I have tried to toggle it on and off but it always remains in record-enable mode

The pale red indicator is a "pseudo arm" state which is designed for control surfaces to allow semi-arm of a track input for the purpose of accepting notes to play an instrument when you select a track. It will auto-arm when you use the KK keyboard to scroll onto a track, also happens with an Ableton Push controller.

Why are you unable to record automation? Are you trying to use MIDI mode on the keyboard or something to record automation on other clips and it is overwriting the channel you are currently selecting? You cannot disable that pseudo arm state as it is automatic and shouldn't be an issue if you are recording automation for the same track you have selected. Would probably need a sequence of what you are doing and where things go wrong to help because for me at least, I don't have issues in this area with the auto-arm but maybe you are working different.

Ableton requires you to hit the record button to record automation. With the track armed it either rights over the midi clip or overdubs(if you have that function selected). The only way I have found a work around is to make a midi track, set it for exclusive arm " bright red" , and recording dummy clips to that track while selecting the track you want to write the actual automation to. This seems like there should be a way to turn this "pseudo arm" feature off for the purpose of not writing dummy midi clips to another channel? Is this correct. What other ways have you found?
