    Hi All,

There isn't much documentation for Symphobia so I'm going to ask a dumb question. I'm using Digital Performer 7.22 and Kontakt 4 with Symphobia 1.2. One of the patches ("02 Symphobia cresc text," to be precise) is not nearly loud enough (actually, a bunch of similar orchestral tutti effects are similarly too soft). I'm not sure why the volume for such a big orchestral sound is set so low, but it is, in comparison to other Symphobia sounds. I notice on the Kontakt interface that the Master Volume slider for the patch is set to -6 dB. OK, so I raise the fader up to 0 dB and play it on my controller. It now sounds fine, obviously much louder. Thinking I've fixed the problem I play the file and watch/listen as the slider immediately moves back to -6 dB and I can't hear the patch again.

Dumb questions: The MIDI vol. is set 127 for the track, automation is on as well, There's no other CC info in the track, so... what is controlling its volume, making it revert to -6 dB? Can't I manually set the volume of the patch in the Symphobia interface or if not, how can I simply (re)set the volume of the patch to what I want if it doesn't seem to respond to MIDI CC or it's own slider?

I wish there was a Symphobia board...

    Best,

    Joel

Open the editing view, click on Instrument Options, on the "Controller" tab change the volume range of CC7 from -oo .. -6 dB to -oo .. 0 dB, perhaps?

Your CC7 that's set to 127 is probably reverting the instrument volume back to -6 dB. ;)

    Thanks

    Thanks EvilDragon,

I'll take a look. It doesn't seem so intuitive that setting CC7 in the sequence track would force the patch to be reset to -6 dB. I do know that I specifically set CC7 to 127 in the sequence in an attempt to change the setting in K4. In other words, I 1st tried to move the fader in K4 and when it wouldn't stick and make a difference I then tried to override it from within Digital Performer.

    Oy...

It does make sense, if that's the setting in the Instrument Options. If the setting says -oo (infinity) to -6 dB, that means that CC7 of 127 will set the instrument volume to -6 dB, and never any higher. ;)

Gotcha! Yes, that does make sense - if it's being controlled by the setting in Instr. Opt. That's where I'm heading right now.

    Thanks!
