Greeetings. I plan to upgrade to K13 Ultimate Collector's Edition, so I will make the purchase now at the current discounted price. However, I do not plan to install the upgrade until I build out my external storage, which I plan to do in the near term. Currently, I have all my NI and third-party Kontakt Instruments on an external LaCie Raid array with a 3TB logical drive (the 4th TB is used for data redundancy), and this allows me to secure my existing data should one of the drives fail.

The down side seems to be performance. The drive is connected to my mid-2012 MacBrook Pro Retina systems via TB2, I know, the laptop is old, but it still gets the job done... that is, until you throw iZotope mixing & mastering plugins at it. Anyway, I think the RAID configuration itself is a bottleneck. I have a dedicated backup drive that I use with Time Machine. So, I figured I would purchase a couple of external 4TB SSD drives with a high read speed and add them to my Time Machine backup schedule. Right now I have my MacBook Pro's ports maxed out, and I have a Thunderbolt-2 enabled docking station with a variety of ports (TB, Ethernet, USB-A, USB-C, etc.) maxed out as well.

My first question is are there any external SSD drives with built-in TB2 ports? From what I've read I can easily daisy-chain several TB2 devices together with no noticeable performance hit. I've been looking for 4TB+ external SSD drives but have not come across any with TB2 ports. If I purchase external SSD drive with USB-C ports, how would you recommend I reconfigure my maxed connections to accommodate the drives without impeding their performance? Alternatively, can you recommend an external SSD TB2 enclosure that can accommodate several SSD drives? With this alternative approach, I can start off with a couple of SSD drives and expand the count over time while resolving all the connections via a single TB2 port on the enclosure, perhaps with the enclosure also having an additional TB2 pass-thru port. I've see a couple of solutions, but they implemented TB3. I'm not sure if the data-stream rates automatically downgrade to the TB2 rate my laptop requires or even if the TB3 form factor differs from TB2, in which case an adaptor is required. I would appreciate your recommendations.

Second question is on migrating my existing K12 Ultimate Collector's Edition content and third-party content from my existing LaCie drive to one of the external SSD drives that I plan to purchase. My biggest issue is losing my Kontakt library references once I migrate the content. Also, I spent a lot of time setting up native and third-party Kontakt instrument references in Kontakt's Quick Find window. I would like avoid rebuilding those entries. What is the most efficient workflow that both allows me to easily migrate the libraries while assigning the new references to their location and to repurpose the underlying Quick Find database to so that my Quick Find list remains intact?

I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

    What i did...
Make note of drive name. Lets say samples
    setup new ssd, samples2
Move all old content to new drive
    Disconnect old drive
    Rename new drive samples
    Done

Thanks for the reply. I am running OS X 10.14 and came across this NI article: https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005719829. Wouldn't this be considered a best practice for migrate NI Kontakt libraries to another drive? However, I do not know if this will alter the Quick Find database so that the Quick Find entry references point to the new location. Also, this approach only works for NI Kontakt libraries and not for third-party ones.

Thank you so much for posting the above link. I am in a similar situation, and this helped greatly. Best of luck to you and your conundrum.
