    Hi Guys,

As there seem to be a few users suffering from this there is an application on windows that may help you work out what is going on.

It is called FileMon http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Filemon.mspx and it basically lists out all the file access on the disk system.

It may be worth you downloading this and running it to see where pro53 is actually looking for this file. Once you know where it is looking copy the file to that location and try again.

I have no idea of a similar utility on osx.

    Cheers

    Andy

    Where to place "def.p5a"

    Hi,

a bit late, here is some information about the mysterious "def.p5a" file.

Basically, the case is rather simple: The file belongs into the application's sub-folder "Presets", for example "c:\program files\native instruments\pro-53\presets" on a Windows machine. This is also the place where it is installed initially.

If the application cannot find the file there when starting, it will ask for its location. The new location, however, is not saved. This was not "fixed" with the latest update due to backwards compatibility reasons: All versions of Pro-53 expect the file in the same location. You can think of this file as .ini or .plist file - these as well cannot be moved around freely.

I hope this helps avoiding the "File not found" dialog.
    Best, Cornelius.

    Cheers

My Pro-53 App is in a folder also named Pro-53 (as installed), which is currently 2 levels down on an external firewire drive; but it hasn't always been, I've moved it a few times. So I guess the crucial thing is that the same Pro-53 folder contains a 'Presets' folder (again as installed), which contains the 'def.p5a' file, and also, amongst other things, folders named 'Controller maps', 'Microtunings' and 'Sounds'; 'Sounds' contains the rest of the installed banks and sub-banks, many nested a further level down. And don't know about anyone else, but I've never had trouble saving and loading my own banks and sounds from any location I choose. Luckily, never had the missing 'def.p5a' problem, either.

So having managed to be long winded about it, I'd say the answer was:

    '[folder containing the Pro-53 app]>Presets>def.p5a'

Which equates to what Cornelius was saying for XP, basically.

Mmm, this is the path I have it in, but it still asks everytime, for every instance... Very annoying.
