Before either is implemented I can't use it, which is a shame because it is hella slick.

 

My absolute showstopper, why i will not use TDJ2 first release in productive:

- no grid editor, so i must trust the autogridding which never will work perfect (in no app)
- no possibility to import (and export) metadata, no cloud etc, TraCoTools will not work, i will lose all my thousands of hotcues, MIK keys, grids! etc.. when i would migrate (from TDJ1 or TPro). Total showstoper.
- my Z1 will still work BUT my S4mk2 does no longer work
- minor, but still a big issue: no recording feature

But still my compliment to NI for this huge step and the idea to start with Traktor familiy on new architecture ! .. and i appreciate personally very much that NI keeps TDJ1 in store in parallel in respect to their current user base.

We know the mentioned features will come in some next releases ... and i keep patient as we have TDJ1 for productive use and gigs (and testing progress of TDJ2 in parallel)

So i cross my finger for a great future of TDJ2 ! Thank you NI for TDJ (1+2), and good luck on your new architecture.
I wish a lot fun for all of us user, exited next steps !

What, no recording!? I guess we can record out of the S2 MK3 audio outs?

How do all you guys know this stuff is missing? Are you on the beta team?

 

Recording the outcome audio from S2 is if course always possible (with a seperate record device connected). what was meant with missing recording: a DJ app itself should allow ro record in background and safe as file (like TDJ1 does)

 

Can someone from NI tell us if recording function and grid editor will be implemented in the near future? Otherwise I have to change my equipment, other Companies have nice DJ Controllers too (with all features I need)

 

Recording I am sure they will add, but it would be nice to know if grid editing is on the roadmap. Saying this I just had a play with a few tracks and the grid was spot on so I wonder if they have improved the detection.

Is the power adapter from the Z1 compatible to the S2 mk3? I can’t testing this atm because I’m at work now.

 

I gotta think they will add the grid adjustments since the S2 MK3 has a "GRID" button for grid adjustments...

 

VERY quick impressions (Windows):
- No iTunes integration - no visibility of iTunes collection and no apparent way to make TDJ2 see it
- Only file or folder import - does this mean it will "watch" a folder? Not sure, but pretty much necessary if no iTunes integration
- Touch interface seems a bit laggy
- Can't drag tracks to decks with my finger, seems like I need to use the mouse, which defeats the purpose of a touch interface
- Please add Ableton Link as most (even mobile/tablet) competition has it
- Missing features on Windows - e.g. "freeze" mode - why is this only on iPad? Will there be more issues like this?

All of this combined with lack of grid adjustments mentioned above will keep me off of switching to a S2 MK3 for the near future.

I am not as concerned about the recording. It would be nice, but most apps kill it when using Soundcloud anyway, and I bet that is why NI made it a lower priority here.

Not meaning to slag on the app, it seems like a good start, it just isn't ready for my needs.

Most apps have Soundcloud now for desktop (Serato, Cross, Virtual DJ, and DJay has Spotify), and TDJ2 needs rough parity with at least the mobile versions (e.g. Cross, DJay). It is missing a lot of their features.

The S2 MK3 looks great to me and I would prefer it over other small controllers (e.g. DDJ-SB3 etc.), but the software just isn't quite there.

What do you mean by itunes integration?

 

I noticed that maybe it has to do with them starting from scratch with the code where as i was not overly impressed with the beatgridding in pro 3.

 

Library analysis seems to happen automatically here, and it's finding all my iTunes playlists just fine. Album artwork is hit or miss for me, about half my tracks don't show the artwork even though they show fine in traktor dj 1 for iPad and traktor pro 3 on my laptop.

The Z1 is working fine here, and I don't even need to use the power adaptor with my iPad Pro 11". Nice.

I desperately want the ability to record my sets in the app itself like others have mentioned, this was crucial for me In the last traktor version. I can understand why it's disabled if you're using the SoundCloud functionality, but if we're only using our own tracks this should still be an option.

 

The ability to upload or directly broadcast to soundcloud seems a missed opportunity.

 

If recording is disabled because of the SoundCloud functionality it would be nice when NI brings a version with no SoundCloud but with recording, so we can choose what is more important for us.
Or that what you wrote, a recording function that is disabled when you activate SoundCloud.

 

After a few ours playing around with TDJ2 and S2mk3 I can say everything works well.
I only miss the recording function, the ability to delete the Traktor-Tracks, so they disappear in the track-suggestions and the „played tracks history“ from TDJ1. Also there is no Settings area, where u can adjust Tempo Fader range and so on.
The power adapter from the Z1 is working well with the S2mk3.
Beat grid adjustment is possible when using a S2 mk3, so one less worry.

 

I really just mean library integration.

On my Windows computer TDJ2 does not see my iTunes library, which I believe is in the default location with xml shared. c:\users\me\Music

Will you please describe how it works?

It seems like the grid button only allows you to shift the grid forward or backward. What about setting the downbeat and the tempo (width of the grid)?

OK so there's no manual, but I just watched the video about beatgrids and it answered my downbeat question. Press the tempo indicator and options for 2X, 1/2 bpm, and set downbeat appear.

Not sure it answered my question about how you set the tempo (not just half or double) though, or how to shift the grid left to right.
