Missing samples in Absynth 4

Hi all,

Just thought I'd post my findings here in case another n00b (like me) gets totally confused as to why Absynth 4 "lost" all its samples.

I purchased the download only version of Absynth 4, which, upon inspection, is around 400Mb is size (plus minus).

Using the Service Center, version 4.0.5 came down and I installed it, no problems there.

Then came the time when I needed to re-install the laptop cos of a new hard drive being installed. So, I faithfully backed up the updated Absynth installer, not checking its file size. When the laptop was up and running again, I installed just the updated 4.0.5 version of Absynth 4, it being only 90Mb in size (plus minus).

When loading Absynth 4 and trying to load presets, I was getting numerous errors about missing samples. Only after much head scratching and hard drive searching, I realised that you need to install the original download version first, in order to have all the samples installed, and then only install the update to update the VST, etc.

In retrospect this sounds pretty obvious, but when the updater installs without requiring a "previous version", it's an easy thing to left slip past.

Just thought I'd share this experience, just in case anybody else might have had the same problems.

That's why it's emphasized time and again that if you reinstall, reinstall from the original installer and then update.

i am having a different issue with missing samples. i've installed A4 from my komplete discs, then updated from service center. when selecting presets, i seem to be coming up with missing samples. example is preset 'eraserhead' which presents the following message:

Sample Eraserhead_DP.wav was not found. Would you like to browse for it?

i've tried digging around thru the various directories but i can't seem to find anything.

Your samples must be either in the default location or in the locations you specify in options/general under samples directories. The default on a Mac is:

Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Absynth 4/Samples

Start Absynth in standalone and make sure the path's correct. Then, rebuild your database from the options/browser page. Done.
