I'm completely new to turntablism and equipment. I just bought turntables (Audio Technica ATLP120), Traktor Scratch Duo, and I've owned a Numark Total Control (which is what got me into djing and scratching) for a few months now.

My next step is a mixer obviously, but I'm at a bit of a loss. I was wondering if it is possible to get a cheap mixer just to transfer the timecode vinyl data between Traktor and the turntables, and use the Total Control to act as a mixer? I dont want to spend more money than I have to, but I am willing to spend around $200 - $300 for a decent mixer if this will not work.

I plan on doing a lot of scratching. I recently ordered the Numark M2, but read a lot of shitty reviews on it lately so I'm more than likely gonna return it once I recieve it in the mail. Ive also been looking at the Stanton SMX311.

If I do end up having to get a mixer, could I still use the Numark Total Control to control Traktor's loops, effects, etc?

    Thoughts?

Since you have TSD you probably have the Audio 4, you can plug the tts into the audio 4, mix internally, send output a to the PA and output b to the headphones and use the total control as the mixer, in that case you wouldn't need to buy anything.

If you get an externaly mixer anyway, yes you can still use your total control.

    awesome thanks a lot!

this is probably a dumb question, but if u can technically mix with a midi controller, what is the point of going out and buying an expensive mixer?

Personal preference, more flexibility with other setups. Build quality (often) etc etc

can you possibly direct me where i can find the details on how exactly to set this up? (connecting the turntables directly into the Audio4DJ, and using the total control as a mixer)

You should be able to do that using the setup wizard.
Simply plug the TTs into the inputs and use scratch coontrol.

now i am faced with another problem.

i have my turntables plugged directly into the audio4dj (i am using the cables that came with traktor), and my pa plugged into those cables (mixer line)

everything works fine except when something very weird happens. when the needle gets towards the center of my vinyl, the turntable starts to scroll thru the tracks.

    any ideas?

That's the scroll zone and perfectly normal.
You can uncheck "use playlist scrolling zone" in the timecode prefs to disable it.
