Ok, now that I've got your attention:

Some of you may be aware that there is a major bug in the midi mode of MK1's with macs, that after an undefined amount of time breaks the midi communication between the hardware and whatever software you're using. Generally it happens in between 10-30 minutes, but may take longer. It usually breaks midi feedback to the controller but sometimes breaks the input as well, and that's sometimes partial, ie knobs don't work but pads do, or vice versa. The issue is NOT software dependent - it happens with ANY software you use with maschine in midi mode.

Here's the deal: We've gotten a couple reports that MK2 may not have this issue, but don't have enough to confirm it. We need MK2 + mac owners to test their units and report back. If we can confirm MK2's are not affected, we're in a better position to take the next steps.

PLEASE - take a moment to run this test. You can even walk away while it's happening and come back a bit to check. Make sure Controller Editor is CLOSED. (Leaving it open seems to make the bug happen less, if at all). Load up a template and software that sends midi BACK to Maschine, ie that changes the leds or displays. The factory Ableton template is good place to start, or maybe a template + tsi in Traktor where you have some led outputs going back to Maschine. Basically anything that sends feedback to Maschine will be fine. Put the MK2 in midi mode and let clips, or beat output from Traktor or whatever, run. Come back in a half hour and check to see that leds, and Maschine displays still update correctly, and if midi still gets sent to your software from the MK2. Report back your findings.

Edit: Alternately dl this app from forum member macchinista that will automate the test for you once you set up the correct ports. (Thanks dude).

We really need your help. I'm not going to get into the politics behind why we're asking you and not waiting on NI, but if you want to dive in here is the largest thread on the issue:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150713
This thread is at 20,000 plus views now, and there are at least ten others started on the problem. Don't be put off by the title if you don't use Ableton. Again, the bug has been determined not to be software dependent.

The bug is confirmed. It has been present for 2 years. MK2 may be affected as well.

We MK1 owners look forward to hearing from you.

I can confirm that I get this issue with the MK1 controller too *but* Mikro MK1 seems to be unaffected for me.

Wondering if anyone has had issues with Mikro MK1 and whether somehow this is confined to the Maschine MK1 controller only?

I'll be picking up a MK2 in the near future so I'm quite interested to see if the Midi Bug is present or not there.

(As an aside, there's a Studio One template for Maschine, created by one of the devs at Presonus, that has worked flawlessly with Studio One. Weird that this should be fine but the others not?)

    I'm on OSX 10.8.2 btw

Ableton / MK2 No midi signal

    Hi:

I just got my Maschine MK2 yesterday after selling my Maschine. I have the latest Mac OS and the 1.8 update. I'm using all the software from NI which was already installed for my Machine.

I did the Mackie Control install so I cold get the transport working but I get nothing, no communication from the MK2 and Ableton.

    help.

Yes, Micro is unaffected. Does the Studio One template send MIDI feedback to Maschine?
    ---
Did you select mackie control in both Maschine templates AND live remote scripts?

    Test app available for download

    Hi,

in order to help those who are interested in doing this test (thanks to Zac for the intiative), I have created a MaxMSP app which sends MIDI to Maschine. You can get it from here.

This is what you need to do to perform the test:

    1) connect the Maschine to your computer, open the controller editor and load the "MidiFreezeTestTemplate.ncm" file
    2) launch the "MidiFreezeTest" app on your computer. Verify that the MIDI IN port is set to "Maschine Controller Midi output port 0"
    3) Click on the box to start the test. The app will start sending MIDI to the Maschine pads and rotaries. You can use the MIDI speed knob to change the frequency at which data is being sent to the controller.

Monitor how long it takes before the Maschine pads and rotaries freeze (if they do).
It would be useful if people could report their results on this thread and specify their test conditions, with or w/o controller editor open, with or w/o USB hub, etc....

Thanks to all those willing to participate and help with troubleshooting this fastidious and persistent issue.

I've been using my MK1 with Traktor in MIDI Mode for almost a year now with over a few hour sets and have never had one problem. I just make sure I restart my Mac before I try to use it with Traktor. Seems like if I run in inside a DAW or standalone then Midi Mode doesn't work correctly

I go shift/midi and click on the Ableton Template.

Am I missing something? I believe I had it working with my Maschine (prior to getting the MKII).

ok second time round :) got a 502 error when i posted :(

I didnt see theres something similar already :)

I was thinking about test crashing the maschine the other day and came up with this,
I modified it a bit tonight to hopefully test mk2 maschines also

    Instructions,

Put your maschine in midi mode, choose any template that uses c-1 to d#0 (massive template definately does this on group A i think)

Start the app, its a standard mac app, doesnt need max or anything.
Pick your maschine from the drop down menu,

    hit start,

when the pads freeze its done, press stop

Be great to know if the mk2 crashes like the mk1 does

The app just sends midi, all legit standard note on and off's. My maschine will crash between 22 and 150 repeats tops, be great to know how long yours goes for

    Jas

If you still have the old Ableton template it may not work. Try deleting it and replacing it by hitting APPEND>Ableton Template. Also make sure the Maschine Remote Script that goes into the Ableton Live contents folder is the new version as that got updated as well. The Controller Editor 1.5.1 has new updated templates but you have to delete the old ones (which still got left in after the the 1.5.1 installation) and add in the new ones. If you didn't miss that then yell out bug here to the croo....I mean....cooks.

    ;)

@machinnista and jiggle- Much props to you guys pitching in to help with this. I'll download both tomorrow afternoon to test out. Should be interesting to see what results may bring.

Yes I tried the Ableton template.

    Shift/Control. Ableton = Template 02.

    Nothing.

I did the Mackie Control modification to get transport control to happen with Restart as Record.

    Nothing.

Yes! This looks to be the answer. I re-did Ableton and started seeing midi signals happening in Ableton.

RE: Mashcine Remote Script . . . do you mean there is a new Maschine_Controller script? (Makes sense) Where do I find the new one? (Sorry if this is obvious).

    Grateful for the help!

PS I looked at the Maschine_Controller file . . .all the info on the contents ifrom like Dec 2011. All my files say they are up-to-date in the Service Center. Maybe somebody coud dropbox the new one to me?

Got transport to work . . . just had to adjust the preferences after deleting, installing and re-starting (then they appeared), but Ableton still not happening. I have 8.25. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Check either in Macintosh HD -> Library -> Application Support -> Native Instruments -> Controller Editor -> Templates or in your Applications folder in the Native Instruments -> Controller Editor folder.

It should be in the Remote Scripts folder I think. The PDF manual should have instructions on it too. Look for it on the Controller Editor Help menu. Hope that helps.

so i still have my MKI, but probably will get a MKII soon.

I also have this MIDI-break up issue with the MKI and OSX 10.6

    here´s when it happens:

i often use Maschine inside S1 with the Maschine XT-template
when i close S1 an get my macbook into hibernate and use S1 and maschine afterwards again - maschine wont work.

the interesting thing is, that the controller editor does still receive singals from maschine (i.e. when i hit the pads). Maschine software also runs well with the controller.

Hope they fixed this with the MKII
It´s a bit annoying to always restart the mac...

The Ableton Live.ncm where it's supposed to be. The question is do I have the latest version (was there an update with 1.8?)?

I'm not referring to the .ncm file but the Maschine Remote scripts file. As of Maschine 1.8.1 and Controller Editor 1.5.1 the drivers, templates, and the remote script needed to control Ableton Live with Maschine got updated. If you never deleted the Ableton, Mackie, Massive, Traktor, and other templates (aside from the ones you made) after installing Controller Editor 1.5.1 and adding them back in (which in essence adds in the updated templates). You'll also have to delete the old remote script file from Ableton (see below where that's located) and replace it with the new remote script as follows.....In order to use the MASCHINE Controller for controlling Ableton Live, you need to copy the folder from the Template Support Files folder inside the "CONTROLLER EDITOR" application folder into the application folder of Ableton Live.

The target folder is located inside the Ableton Live application bundle. Right click on the “Live.app” file and choose “Show Package Contents”.
Copy the folder “MASCHINE Controller” from the location "Macintosh HD/Applications/Controller Editor/Template Support Files/Ableton Live 8" to the folder inside the "Live.app" file: "Contents/App-Resources/MIDI Remote Scripts. Hope that helps to improve your situation. Let us know. Also try out the tools machinnista and jiggle posted here in this thread too if you can to give us test results on your MK2.

We really would like to know from more MK2 users here on this thread to find out if they are dealing with this issue on Mac as we MK1 users are so we can narrow down where the problem arises so by all means chime in.

Check this page (first post) to dl a properly labelled new Ableton template to learn what everything does. I didn't change any functions, just labelled it a bit better.

Let's try and keep this thread focused on testing MK2's though, if possible ;)
