I recently bought a Mk3 as my first ever Maschine. I had at first thought when the Mk3 came out I would be able to pick up a used Maschine cheap as everyone would upgrade. Fact is I am so delighted I opted for the Mk3 for many reasons but my biggest is the built in sound card and the portability. I do have a 32 channel digital mixer and a 'Babyface' but love the portability of the Mk3 with my MacBook and headphones. Not just away from home but around the house. My advice would be get the Mk3 and you will probably end up selling the mikro. You will find you just have no use for it. I think there are 'Studios' everywhere gathering dust atm.
OH: and I am just getting to the point where I start learning to sample. I'm thinking I'll wait for the new update rather than learn techniques soon to be obsolete. I am guessing that may be another reason to go with the Mk3 though.
I can honestly say I have not had 1/2 the fun in 5 years of owning a 'Push' that I have had in my first month with the Mk3.

It's all up to your budget. I wouldn't recommend going for an older model. The MK3 is a superior controller overall, the screens alone are worth it then there are the dedicated buttons with a modern layout and a basic audio interface that can come in handy for portability and some future proofness, since it was released recently.

If your budget is low then consider a used Maschine Studio, which is far superior to an MK2. Just be very careful as some sellers don't transfer the software.

if he have mikro mk2, there is no need to be careful about software, unplug mikro and plug in studio and thats all
if you want to sell mikro for a better price then you can transfer licence, but i would not hassle with that because you can get used NI hardware without software for a price that makes selling mikro useless anyway :D

Hmmm. Not exactly sure that I did "change from Push (1) to Maschine". I mean I still have my Push and I have still not bothered touching it for 4 years or more. I also drifted away from Ableton Live, largely because of the type of music I was working with. More live real instruments with vocals doing songs, jazz standards etc, so a drift away from loop based music. This was furthered buy buying a Presonus RM16ai mixer, which then got me into Studio One as a DAW. Main reason for that was the desire to multi track record. Next in line was a KK88 and Komplete Ultimate. I had an eye on Maschine for a long time and a big factor was the Komplete integration.
I had been hoping I could use my Push to control ideas and scenes, as I had used it in session mode in Live but apparently I can not. Don't really understand that one but accept it. For that matter I would have thought I could have used an old 'Launchpad' to do the same thing.
For what it is worth I did find a program a few years ago that linked the browser in Push to the menu in Komplete but never worked smoothly enough for me.
That's another reason I like the Mk3. The screens make browsing from the unit better.
    Here's the thing.
Push works well with Ableton Live.
Maschine (mk3, but any of them) works well with Maschine.
I think the "session view" in Live works better than the "ideas view" in Maschine but that could just be caused by the fact I am more familiar with it.
At the end of the day though I think I will be better off with the Mk3 and buying a 'Jam' than I ever would have been with Push2.
I think the biggest single reason for this is not having to switch modes on Push2. Both are there and visible.
I know there are a lot of concerns over Maschine not being a fully fledged DAW but it can always be used in my DAW of choice and bare in mind Maschine is now on Version 2.7 with maybe version 3 coming soon. Live is on version 9 (where it has been for 5 years) with version 10 coming soon.
A lot of people deserted Live and went to Bitwig. I'm probably heading in the direction of Maschine, though I am very happy with Studio One as my go to DAW.
So you see it's not so simple as switching from Push to the Mk3.
    OH
One more thing. I started looking into plugging a guitar into the mic input of the Mk3 yesterday. Pretty impressed with the results and that was just a Jap Tele straight in. Recorded some chords and started working on my own group. Not sure if you can do that sort of thing with Push2 but you certainly can't with Push1, or any other Maschine for that matter.
Looking forward to plugging my PRS Hollowbody into my Vox AC15 (and no not one of those Chinese ones) miced into the Mk3.
The other thing I'm looking forward to is taking a guitar and a bag with the Mk3 and my laptop when I go away for a couple of days over Christmas.
Brings me back to my original answer to the original question.
The biggest single reason for Mk3 over any other Maschine is imo the sound card.
The rest may be pretty much just icing on the cake but damn if it ain't pretty nice icing too.

This guy pretty much mirrors everything I just said

(PS: I hope such links are allowed here)
I have not touched Push1 since trying the software I mentioned to access Komplete menu. Further, I think If I buy a Jam I will be able to do everything I want with Studio One and Maschine so not only will Push be redundant but Live as well. Maybe sell both.
Live/Maschine? Well I can not comment on Push2 but Push 1 is more midi focused than audio. Sure you can trigger loops in session view, the main thing I used it for, but that's it. I thought of it as a "keyboard for guitarists" when I first got it.

i know im going to catch flack on this but ive spent untold thousands on NI gear so i think i should have a voice (smile)....i have owned every single maschine since the mk1-ive never owned any akai product in my life. i stuck with the brand because it ONCE was untouchable-as a beatmaker the whole concept was just revolutionary...however, i recently bought my first akai item-the MPCX...and as i sit here with a brand new maschine mk3 whose usb drivers dont seem to be compatible with windows 10 im finding myself turning to that mpcx more, and more, and more. thanks for listening.

Not sure what's going on there, might be another issue? I'm on Windows 10, and you know NI tested extensively on Windows 10, all good over here.

First I've heard of that one but can't help as I'm on a Mac. Sure someone will get you sorted though. Good luck.
