Has anybody got it working properly?

I've updated to 2.7.4 and am running Live 10.0.1 on Mac OS 10.13.4 (and Windows 10) but nothing has changed for me and it still isn't working how it should.

There's a long list of things that I've noticed but the main things are: Record doesn't record it just enables the back to arrangement icon, none of the knobs even register without reassigning them and even then they seem to only react to touch not turn, when I press SHIFT in MIDI mode it doesn't show the MONITOR KNOBS PAGES TEMPLATES screen.

I've loaded a new template in the controller editor but it still says Ableton 9. I've noticed there is a "Maschine MK3 Legacy" in the template support files, not sure what it does but it's in a Live 9 folder anyway. There is a Live 10 folder but only contains a Maschine Jam template.

What am I missing here? Do I need to load the template some how?

Been waiting for this to work for ages. Going a bit nuts...

I had the same problem yesterday which no one helped my with so I had to figure it out myself. Are you on Mac or PC? I'll try to help you best I can.

I use both regularly but I'm on my Windows 10 setup right now so whatever's easiest for you.

    Thanks

Alright so first thing that helped was making sure to follow the NI installation instructions to a T. Then make sure your midi preferences in Ableton say
Maschine Mk3 legacy - Madchine Mk3 for input Ctrl Midi - Maschine MK3 Ctrl Midi for output .

Then make sure that track is enabled for both. So you'll you have 2 for Ctrl Midi to turn on, and 2 for Maschine MK3 Legacy to turn on. That's how I have mine set.

I'll post a picture shortly so you can see how I have it set up. I've also noticed that if you have Ableton running while setting up the script that it doesn't work so it's best to wait till it's installed and opened in Controller Editor before starting Live.

Experienced some of the same problems, and I still can't get this to work properly. Especially bugged out by the lack of volume control.

You can disregard the Launchpad pro settings. This is how I have my settings and it's working.
Even with it fully working this was a very underwhelming template. I expected much more for how long we waited. It has less features than the Jam/MK2/and Studio templates. It's okay for very basic Ableton control but no better than a generic controller. ****'s useable but whack.

Yeah, and it doesn't make sense cause the release notes said the template gave volume control. Maybe someone will post something explaining what I'm doing wrong. I'm not expecting anything radical from a template like this, Ableton and NI being competitors, but this was definitely underwhelming. The Logic integration that came with 2.7.3 was waaay smoother and feature rich.
Thanks for the picture, I will try the setup later!

    Thanks for the replies.

I tried all that and had some success but it all seemed to reset weirdly when I would switch to Maschine VST in Live.

I actually found this: https://support.native-instruments....the-MASCHINE-MK3-Integration-for-Ableton-Live But unfortunately it doesn't work whatsoever. I managed to get some functionality manually but nothing like it should be.
Transport kinda works but play doesn't restart like it used to and NONE of the knobs even register MIDI data in Live. It makes no sense.

Seriously, this is doing my head in. Everything was lovely with my MK2.

After playing with it some more and watching older videos for the MK2 templates I realize it does have most of the functions of the older templates but the layout it what is vastly different. The way the MK3 temolaye works is a bit whacky, and you don't have the convenience of dedicated pages anymore which is a bit tedious. But I have been able to get decent functionality out of it. I just wish there were and updated manual for the MK3 template so we could know exactly what buttons do what now. I also experienced the resetting after going from the template to vst mode and back so I think this is definitely a bug.

Ok, so.... After a good amount of time messing round and making my own template but mainly just trying to make sense of this thing NI are calling a template I realised there actually is some good functionality here like DataStrain said.

I think the way it's intended to be used is as 3 seperate modes:

MIDI Mode (Shift+MIDI): Using a template (I strongly suggest editing your own) you can use the transport, play pads, assign the knobs to parameters etc like most MIDI controllers but there is no "automatic" mapping for the Mixer like there used to be.

Plugin Mode (Shift+Plugin/Instances then select Maschine project name): Control Maschine Software as a plugin or standalone. Not sure how this works or even if it works at all when running two instances of Maschine.

Template Mode (Shift+Plugin/Instances then select Ableton Live): Transport control, tap tempo, metronome toggle, loop toggle, quantise, undo, redo, mute, solo, track volume, tack pan (shift+up on encoder wheel). You can cycle through tracks with the encoder wheel or the arrow buttons.

One problem I've encountered is that the play button only seems to restart playback in Template mode. No biggie but if anyone can figure it out I'd be keen to hear.

Also, in Ableton's MIDI settings I'm using MK3 as the Control Surface and Virtual Input and Output with Track, Sync and Remote all On.

Well... kind of... technically there just 2 modes. #1 and #3 work together for older controller models but independently for the new ones, like so:
Shift+Plugin = Select between controlling Maschine software standalone/plugin or advanced Host Integration.
Shift+MIDI = Controller Editor templates with NO advanced Host Integration.

(#3) Template Mode might be the incorrect term for what your describing for the MK3 because there is no actual Controller Editor template, only a Remote Script is used, NI refers to this as "Host/DAW Integration", we used to call that templates too because the previous models required a CE template, they don't anymore for the MK3 and KKS-MK2. The remote script is what makes the "auto mixer mapping" possible (visual meter feedback, controlling software functions, etc...)

Users often refer to Host Integration as Templates, which leads to a ton of confusion and it got even worse with the new models working differently. In a nutshell it seems that from now on Templates and Host Integration are separate things.

For now we don't have much, it's still basic. For me the biggest inconvenience is that we can't edit Host Integration anymore since it's not Controller Editor dependent anymore, so theres no ability to add extra pages or edit anything and we are stuck with however NI decides to make it. :S

I'm really wondering if stuff can be added by just editting the remote scripts or does it need firmware updates for the controller as well. If the first is true I'd like to have some kind of API documentation of the host integration part. There's documentation available for the Ableton side.

Things could really speed up when the API is open and the community gets involved...

    One can dream...
An API/Documentation so that 3rd party devs could make their own Advanced Host integration scripts for any DAW.
An API/Documentation for the Tag system for a custom external tag tool to mass tag user sounds/samples.
An API/Documentation for a tool to create Audio Previews for your user stuff...
    So many possibilities...

    Scripts seem to use http://opensoundcontrol.org/introduction-osc

However what functionality is implemented and what is not from the NI side is not clear for me at the moment.

The generic _Nativeintstruments library is uncompiled python and easy to check. The specific Maschine_Mk3 folder however contains compiled Python code and has to be decompiled first before being able to see what's going on.

    [edit]
Ok, decompiling done... Was easy, send me a pm if you want to know how. Windows by the way, Mac users have to find their own tool.
