Mk3+Jam Automation

    Hi all,
    I'm using a combination of maschine Mk3 and jam.
    I want to record automation using the smart strips on jam while playing Notes in on the Mk3.
    I pressed shift + auto on Mk3 but that didn't record the jam controller moves, and it seems pressing shift +auto does nothing on the jam :(

    Am I missing something?
    Surely there's a way without directly holding down the auto button on Jam
