Never heard of such an issue. Do you also get noise on the headphone output?
Do you have another Interface to test some things? If you do plug the MK3 output to the ins of your interface a record a little, then check if the recording also has noise during silence.

I had the same problem. You have to use the plug and the usb cord to get rid of the noise.

Oh... That's usually an electrical issue, ground loop or something along those lines. I too have this problem, either i have to do what you said or, my speakers need to be connected to different power outlet than my computer. This is not an MK3 issue though.
On my other Interfaceface, i can hear my mechanical HD spinning/ write-noise coming out of my speakers if the pc and speaker share the same outlet.

Exactly. Also, I added this prong to each monitor plug to stop the noise. I hope this helps.[IMG]

My MK3 (which has now sent back to NI for a defective 4D encoder) had the same problem. I've compared the noise output from MK3 and my Apogee Duet2 using balanced cables with both the devices. From the Duet2 there's absolutely silence while from MK3 there's that kind of noise that I've found coming out from PA Speakers. It's not AC noise, in my opinion. It's more like a pink noise, or tape noise. I will test it again when MK3 will come back.

Jus white noise or hum...check your signal gain path. But if you just got a singal connection will have hum, but signal gain and the right hi-z/lo-z input cable will make difference. Wanted to test MK3 AI so hook it str8 to BX5 monitors lil white noise....but from exp a mixer or gain path will keep it out of mix if you recording the main audio for tracking/mixing. Rule of Thumb MONITORS are for Monitoring, Its not the actual RECORDING your listening too...Now Watch For The CLIP! (audio pun)

    Hi guys

    thanks for your replys.

It helped to put in the ac plug, the noise is gone now.
But without this it is extremly noise.
So you have to put in this plug everytime you want to use the maschine in the studio.

    Thanks gain

    Best

Yep - I am trying to use my MK3 as my main audio device (it works for me - Im not too worried about uber quality) and was dissapointed with massive noise problems - plug in the power supply - and - hey presto - silence. Weird - coz the PS has no ground? Hey ho - it works!

Ahh - edit - no - it doesn't work. Not as much noise - but still very poor. Gonna try some better quality cables and see if that works.

I use the Mk3 audio interface daily, ins & outs & don't have any noise. I also don't use that plug in adapter (all though it's a good suggestion in case that's the issue).
Every once in awhile when I rearrange some of my set up I'll hear air or a hum, but once I move some cables around I can tell where it's coming from......for example mixing power cables with audio cables can cause noise.......I had to separate a lot of my cables.
So either something's wrong with your specific Mk3 or there is another issue in your set up like the ground loop mentioned above.........

Yep Sharriss - my headphones are clean a whistle - I suspect the cheap 'n cheerful jack to phono cables - so I will swap these out - prob make my own - I have enough quality cable and plugs. Tho it is strange - the noise floor drops markedly when the power adapter is plugged in to the MK3 - without it - there is a sh*t load of noise (not hum - actual mix of various noise - not just white noise - and not hum) So - Ill have a go at some decent cable. Or just bite the bullet - and get a decent interface (Sapphire or similair) just be nice to use the MK3 facilities as they are there already - and ultimate sound quality is just not that important to me.

a good power conditioning strip with isolated banks and/or outlets can do wonders here.

gold.. I use this also for making space by elevating power supply adapters

I have/had a Lot of noise coming from the outputs (I'm in Scandinavia). Compared it to a 10-years old Steinberg CI2 interface and an Audient id22 - it was ridiculous. Had the shop manager where I bought look at it too, and he agreed, we send it to NI... 3 weeks ago now. Haven't heard anything.

And no it wasn't ground loop, it wasn't the power plug or anything like that. I really hope that it was just a bad production unit, otherwise I won't be getting it back, not for such an amount of money.

    So yeah look out folks!

Are there other experiences / solutions to this problem?

I just bought a refurbished MK3 and have the same problem. A constant high noise output which sounds like white or pink noise. I just bought new balanced cables which go into my Focal Alpha monitors. Volume at 0. I have connected the USB cable to my Lenovo Notebook and the power plug.

Also the output from this unit seems to be very loud cause i just need to turn the volume knob on 30% and i have Disco in my room.

No problem here. Usb cables can also create ground loop like issues. Sometimes trying another usb cable helps. Of course it always makes sense to check the audio for ground loops. Powering the unit through mains making the noise go away is typically a ground loop issue somewhere.

Well it is no Problem with USB cables cause the headphone output works fine. I have read the MK3 has a line output of +18dB? Is this value fix or the max / min level?

Cause my monitors work with 0 db level input. Maybe it is way too much for my monitors?
