    Hi all first post.

A quick question: I played out for the first time w/laptop and traktor using a cheapo (external USB) soundcard, and was plagued by that "didit didit" noise you get when a mobile phone pings a tower...

Would this be fixable by getting a decent soundcard? Have you all had any experience with this?

    Cheers

It sounds like that some of the components shielding is to blame. But before start changing the sound card, I would check if the RCA connectors of the cable connecting soundcard and mixer are plugged in all the way.

Thanks, I believe they were. The soundcard is going to be replaced anyway, so I'm hoping it was that.

Anybody want to recommend a good soundcard for hooking up to a club system? I'll also be getting a controller for Traktor, and it would be nice if it had an integrated soundcard thats good enough...

Probably stating the obvious here, but why not just move your phone away from the mixer?

.....there's a good reason why most radio stations & studios insist that all mobile phones are switched off!

Thanks, I hope you don't mind me also stating the obvious and pointing out that in clubs and bars you also tend to get quite a few other people (customers) who sometimes have mobiles too. Asking them to keep a distance from the decks may not go down so well...

    ;)

From the feedback I've received elsewhere, looks like its the lack of shielding on either the soundcard or cables to mixer. Hopefully I'll be rid of the problem when I get a decent soundcard, and would love to hear if anybody has any actual experience of dealing with this issue.

    Thanks.
